Early Underwood Barrel??

It is early, not the earliest!

Is it attached to a receiver?

Do not confuse deliveries with production.

Underwood was looking to get into wartime production.

they received a purchase order March 25 1942 and a formal contract on June 26, 1942

The only issue with the google search is it cannot index posts that are in sections that you can only access when you are logged in, so the forum search function is your friend.

My Underwood Carbine  sr #1,350,069 also has a 10/42 barrel and was in the first delivery to the Gov't from Underwood, 12/42, (as far as I know).  ''War Baby'' is a good reference, you can spend a lot of time with that book.

My Underwood is a well worn Korean buy-back from the 1990's and so marked. Who knows how many times it was rebuilt.

Last year I did somewhat of a deeper study on my Underwood and found probably quite a few of the parts that made it up were probably not of Underwood origin, most likely being of Inland mfg. 

Today at our monthly meeting of Central Pennsylvania Antique Arms Assn.  I picked up a late National Postal Meter sr. # 4,255,255, (yes, that's the actual sr. # and part of the reason I bought it).  More after a tear-down and photos.
