I have this Winchester carbine and the serial number is in the first block 1,27X,XXX. However, it appears to be a type III receiver, and if I’m reading things correctly, it should be a type type I. I also have purchased but not picked up yet, another Winchester first block serial number 1,21X,XXX that from the pictures appears to be Type 1B receiver as I can see a whole, where the slides stop pen engages. I should have that rifle here next week if not by the end of the week and I will get some more pictures of that on here for show & tell. Can someone tell me what I am looking at and if the receiver is a reused serial?

what is your source? Type 1 for Winchester only has the rear slide guide way notch, Slide stop detent and a slide dismount notch. Type 2 has front and rear slide guide way notches. The slide dismount hole is absent both have the spring tube or two piece receiver Type 3 is a deep hole one piece receiver the type 3 receiver shows up in the 116xxxx range which overlaps the type 2 range. in the early range the left rear detail was 9/16 " in the 124xxx range to the end of the block the left rear detail was reduced to 1/4 inch Spring tube receiver details for the left rear detail refer to the clubs datasheet. the video section has links to filling out the data sheet with info on each item. such as what the rear left detail is/

I’m using the comprehensive Guide M1 Carbine by R.C. Larson. Check The link again, I uploaded the two pictures from the references in the book as well as a close-up of what I was talking about on the gun I’m buying. Let me know what you think. I appreciate your feedback.

Sorry, there are two pics of receivers now. The one with only the notch is the 1.27mil serial and the one where there is a hole is 1.21mil serial range.

I've seen other WRA receivers in your serial number range (1.27M) that have the integral deep drilled spring hole, so I don't think it has to be a reused serial number.

112xxxx i would expect to be a type 2 receiver. all Winchester receivers had the hole at the back of the receiver. look at your 127 and notice how a bushing is crimped in place, though something looks off in your picture, may be the lighting. Recommend CCNL 336 which has the Winchester first block update late type 2 receivers did not have the hole going through the slide stop detent on the right horizontal rail. this changeover appears to begin in the 112 range
