Good Evening m1 experts
I have recently come into my possesion a m1 carbine that has a bit of a interesting history as far as I can tell. I only picked up the rifle yesterday, so will be Doing a disassembly and cleaning in the next few days. As well as submiting a report as I clean and inspect the rifle. Its a Winchester build carbine that had made its way to Angola, via the CIA, During the South African border war. During the years after it found its way into Mozambique with militants there during their civil war. My friend that worked in Mozambique after the war was given this rifle as his personal protection rifle. When his contract ended he was able to bring it into South Africa. And from there I have become its custodian. The rifle is in a not to bad shape considering its history, the stock has a crack in the fore end, the top hand guard is missing and there's some wear on the finish. I have yet to put a scope in the bore to check its condition For interest the serial number is 5655xxx. I will be adding pictures as I take them with disassembly and cleaning of the rifle And definitely compiling and submitting a report. Regards Peter |

12215 carbines transferred to Angola via the CIA starting in 1974. Looking forward to the pictures.

Hi All quick folow up, i did the data sheet entry and emailed. I stripped down as far as i was comfortable with. It could do witht another strip down and clean especialy the trigger group, but the bore looks okay. Fixed some rusting on the bottom of the barrel. Here is some pictures for the curious
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As mentioned the stock has a crak that i will have to take a look at. and the top hand guard is missing, ill have to look arround and find one of them. When i have a day with noting else going on i plan to strip the entire trigger group, and do a thourouh cleaning. All in all not in terrible shape. any thing you guys want to know more dietail of please let me know
