can anyone offer an opinion as to this barrel's authenticity, based on these photos?

the rifling seems new, but a 30-06 cartridge inserted bullet-first drops down freely to within a 1/16" or less of the case rim.
I purchased the gun last month, advertised as "all original configuration".

Sometimes it's hard to judge muzzle erosion with a 30-06 cartridge. It looks to me like an almost "new" original Underwood barrel. Tell us about the rest of the carbine.

The turning marks appear rather fine for Underwood and the top of the "bomb" just beneath the flame looks different than the picture here on this site

On this basis, admittedly a small sample (ignoring the date), I would vote no

I’m not the expert here, but if it’s fake...it is a very good one. Maybe the variation in turning was due to a tool-change or machine variation, or even the camera angle?

some parts show little wear:

other parts show heavy wear:

the stock has a nice finish but it fits poorly around the receiver at the recoil plate and around the trigger housing. and it has a sharp hump above the handgrip.

the rear sight has little or no staking at the right front corner in the receiver dovetail.

it was advertised as an "all original configuration" standard products usgi m1 carbine, serial #2018758.  I purchased it online, a novice, in June of this year, at a premium price, from a gun shop in ontario, canada. I was unable to examine it in person beforehand due to the pandemic border restrictions.

I've seen both finer turnings and coarser turnings on original Underwood barrels. Also, the stock fit looks typical.

It looks like a righteous Standard Products carbine, so far. What are the numbers stamped on the bottom of the operating slide, at the front of the trigger housing and on left side of the receiver? They might tell us something.

I haven't fired the gun yet. I'm, nervous, because the gas piston is stuck 'in'. I tried closing off the breech end while blowing air down the barrel from the muzzle, and it didn't budge. I've ordered a piston nut wrench from sarco inc in Pennsylvania, but it might take weeks to reach me in atlantic canada. someone on YouTube suggested filling the whole barrel and gas cylinder with solvent and letting it soak like that overnight?

The manufacturing codes on the bolt and trigger housing are consistent with what has been seen on other carbines showcased in CCNL "Carbine of the Month" data sheets. The slide is off a bit, but there's not much history on serial numbers in this range so I wouldn't say it's incorrect. The barrel date corresponds to the serial number so it's probably original too. Again, so far it looks original.

I bet that gas piston loosens up after one or two rounds. Removing the piston should be a last resort, like if it doesn't cycle at all when fired.

Plus 1. Shoot it....the worst thing that can happen is it might stay stuck. Don’t monkey with a piston nut until you have to. There are other things to try and free it up, if it comes to that.

I'm wondering if the rear sight hasn't been off at one time or moved going by the edge of the dovetail on the right. I see the one stake mark at the rear lines up fairly well though, but there's ways to make that happen--just an observation. I also wonder about the flame lick on the cartouche, it's probably good though.

there are bluing scrapes close to the muzzle on the top of the barrel, but not around the sides or bottom:

Parts are correct but that may have been the plan. Yeah, the rear sight's been off and on a couple of times. Why? Who knows. What does the barrel band look like?

I'm suspicious the rear sight is not USGI... but I defer to experts such as Dr. Flipsight.

the barrel band has no marks on it.
there is a punch mark on the top of the barrel about 5 inches behind the muzzle, but no letter P anywhere on this rifle (that I've found yet) except for a trace of a P inside a circle on the bottom of the hand grip.

here's a closer view of the flaming bomb:

Let's see the top. Looking at the spot welds. 2 or 3?
