Tim, welcome to the forums.
check these pages http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_universal.html at quick glance Universal used what looks to be a USGI type adjustable rear sight with the exception of the enforcer (page 5) if that is the case and the peep slide is missing or broken then you need to replace it as a unit. you say it has "the Serial number on it". meaning same as the carbine or does it say I.R. Co. 7160063? I have little to no knowledge on Universals but do know certain serial ranged had issues so would read those pages carefully before buying parts.

That looks like some sort of scope mount adapter. You could slide out and install adjustable sight.
How is that sight mounted to barrel? The one in hand guard. Is there a sight on front of barrel? |

I, too, am a first timer for the forum, so excuse any mistakes.
I recently purchased a Universal action ass'y (no stock). It has a rear sight like a normal GI issue and uses the normal front sight at the tip of the barrel. If you do not have a standard front sight, then you may be looking for a special rear sight. Perhaps someone else knows more about that. I can tell you that there are likely four threaded holes covered by a thin plastic cover of the side of the action opposite of the cocking lever. It will easily pry off once the action has been removed from the stock. Those are meant to mount a scope, so I understand. I do not know where such a scope mount could be found for sale. When I purchased this action ass'y everything looked good about it so I thought my extra GI carbine stock would fit. It does not, so I am in need of a Universal Carbine stock. I would accept a plastic stock (although wood is preferred) if anyone knows where I could purchase one. Thanks and best regards to all, |

Seems like Tim is in the wind. However I found this
Quote"Years ago, Numrich sold a mount with one screw hole and a dovetail that fit into the rear sight slot. I have one that's in pretty rough shape. I can email you pics if interested." So hopping over to their site I see this
