along with the oiler and mag I just posted there is this stock,
at first I thought Jamestown Lounge....but it seems that the J is for Jewell, a replacement stock maker..
since it has a CC (not sure for which maker) I assume these were sent to makers as part of their spare parts quota? inspected, and if good , accepted with the CC? type 1 barrel band, low wood

or would they have been used as an org stock if supplies were low on others?
gun is a 4 millon Inland, flip sight, more pics later today
thanks for any help/input
Al

The crossed cannon found on the Jewell Bros. stocks is not related to any Prime manufacturer. The actual reason for the CC on these replacement stocks is unknown but thoughts are that Jewell may have had quality control issues that resulted in every stock needing a closer Ord Dept inspection. The CC on Jewell stocks has also been seen in the sling well next to the J stamp.

I've seen several Jewell stocks with the ordnance stamp. I think they stamped all of their stocks. And the stamp was unique to their company, unlike any other manufacturers stamp.

I owned one of those stocks with that sane small crossed cannon stamps many years ago. Every one of the few I have seen had that same cartouche.

Don't think there is any doubt about all Jewell Bros. stocks having the same small (hotdog) CC. Question is why? Was there a reason that they all needed an Ord Dept inspection or was the Jewell CC just something that they did on their own as part of their marking.
