Hi!

An M1A1 is for sale on a French website(4400€), it is said by the gunshop to be a 07-1944 parachute drop(always like that…). Looks really nice and no differences between parts as for the visual overall aspect.
BUT, of course there is a but, with a 5146074 serial number(may 44 made), that would state a new earliest serial for 4-rivet handguards. On a fat boy high wood stock.
It has also type 5 op. slide, M mag catch, round bolt, type 2 rear sight, type 2 barrel band, so all upgrades available at that time.

Barrel date?
Is there a CC on the grip side or bottom?
Is there a "P" proof on stock or hand grip?
Marking on the T2 band?

Checking the CCNL for that serial block it seems that carbine is textbook correct. Fatboy grip. Bolt. Mag catch. Ft band. Bbl date. Etc.

The questions I asked were some of the other examples as to location or presence or absence.

4 rivet HG has been reported a bit later in the 3179xxx range.
However I would scrutinize the carbine on the whole as it seems otherwise correct.

Of the 500 Greek return M1a1s about half were in the serial number range of the carbine in question. Many with the same features. Many had the small CC on the bottom of the grip and no proof P in a circle on the rear of the stock.

I wish I could!!
I have seen another picture he added on the website, I can see a small CC on the bottom of the grip, but no picture of the rear.
