painter777 asked that I post his milsurps post over here. Looking for thoughts on this "Inland" that was listed on GB.
Charlie is quoted below.
"OK, Ran across a humped with fake parts carbine then noticed the Inland stamp and a serial number of 3,543,98? I just can't see the last digit. I'll add the GB listing but it will soon time out then no pictures will be available. I grabbed the only pictures that could help ID the receiver maker. It has the Round op slide mill cut. Short hand guard lip. In the 3rd picture between Inland and the serial number you can see where the rear bevel has been ground on heavily. Has a Inland 2-44 barrel with repro Type I barrel band, repro IN-B flip sight. Can anyone recognize the front receiver ring markings? What maker is this one?" https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1034840082 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Why doesn't Charlie post it here? It is a late 4 mil to early 5 mil Inland receiver with the original serial number ground off and new one added. the last number of the new serial number looks to be a 5 The last number of the original serial number looks to be a 3. The pitting on the receiver makes me think it was in the South Pacific region. There is a post on these forums about some that had numbers replaced, probably due to someone losing theirs and the need to account for their serial number

Wayne,
Thx for posting this for me. They just finished switching our internet provider over, so back online. Tomorrow after Doctors appointments I'll look over a few front receiver rings for detail comparisons, maybe find some clues. I can't help but wonder about 'Legalities' for a buyer of a Carbine like this. If it was me it would be handcuffs the way my luck runs at times. Others praised for such a Rare find Thx Again, I owe you one, Charlie-P777

Let me help you with that, look at all the grinding marks on the rear of the receiver going side to side. Look at other receivers, the machining goes from front to back. Part of Inland clearly ground off. left side arrows show a depression which interrupts the transition from side to top of the receiver, go look at photo 16 in the auction. Red box you can see the last digit of the original serial number. ![]() If you are gonna pull carbines to look at start with a hand stamp and look at that front ring for spacing Best, Dan

"Let me help you with that" 4th picture down I could see the Divot and broken lines of the sidewall from grinding. Dan, I don't have the PC skills to rotate a picture so your view helps a lot. I was trying to down size the pics to post this here today but was struggling and running out of time as we had a Tech coming to swap our internet provider. So I asked Wayne if he had time if he could do so, otherwise I'd try again later. I posted it the other forum 1st because it allows the big pics without me having to crop. 2nd, Over there I'm just trying to keep it going with topics now and then for guys that don't frequent here or post often. Just trying to keep some of the ole guard around while or when their active. Same bunch we give links to here about things. I thought what was left of the Inland Div was still be original. But the serial number being out of Inlands blocks threw me. So thoughts wandered while looking at numbers of different heights and spacing. Thoughts like, is this a Inland scrapped receiver or transferred receiver finished by SG or S'G' ? per serial number. While seeing humped parts and the rear bevel being ground on had me assuming foul play. A New serial number for Salvage never entered my mind. I appreciate your help. The listing did say 'Refinished' ![]() Charlie-P777

It’s probably about time to update the tutorials for sizing pics. Some of us dinosaurs are still using older windows systems. In windows 10 and 11 the old MS paint is still there, just need to type “ paint” in the search box without the quotes. Choose paint app for old paint program that is in the tutorial. Do not choose paint 3d. With Win 10 and 11 I think “photos” is the native viewer. Try this tutorial Basically the 3 dots are the key. Resize image. Choose the last option in video. Check pixels instead of percentage. For width choose 720. Save as a copy or rename. As always, Wayne and I can assist in sizing pics and putting in you folder or posts. We need apple guy to see if that tutorial is still accurate cropping and rotating pics is also easy in "photos' I will have to explain in a separate post tomorrow to make sure I explain correctly.

I have trouble remembering which I'm talking to; the phone or the TV! They have different names. I can frequently be heard cursing the wrong one for not doing what I want it to do!
