Hello all, I picked this IBM Up from a man that said it came from the CMP 20 years ago. It did not come with provenance nor have I requested it, so I'm not sure.

When cleaning, I noticed the AOB round bolt has many markings. Also, the receiver bottom, flat of the barrel and the tang are all scribed with the same number - P5 474 78 as best I can tell (receiver tang only P5)

Has anyone seen similar markings?

The bolt was made by Auto Ordnance for IBM.
CCNL 329 IBM manufacturers update discusses the additional markings with H being common on most round bolts. The letter below the lug is believed to be lot numbers.

The electro-etched markings are probably a form of property marking.

Thanks for the info Dan. I've got quite a few AOB bolts but this was the only one I saw with the additional markings.

On a separate note, I have 2 Saginaw's that I'll add to your club survey.

Lend lease firearms are frequently electro stenciled when acquired. I have a Springfield 1903 that was returned from Greece. Those boys stenciled the bolt, receiver and stock and made other changes. I am unsure if the M1 30 carbines got the same treatment. Yours may be a Greek return. Others will know more than me.

That could coincide with it being sold by the CMP as the seller stated. I plan to reach out to Cathie for a provenance letter, but have a couple more serial numbers I was going to list and send at the same time.

Thank you for the info.
