Catch, Magazine, Revision 5

Like many carbine parts, the magazine catch has gone through several revisions.

The clubs number system does not represent the ordnance revisions, but we all know that later in the war the magazine catches were modified for more sliding clearances and identified by the letter "M" on catch push face.

With the advent of the M2 carbine and the magazine needing extra support there was another design change which added support tang. This is easily identified by using the M underlined on the push face.

In the 1952 Modified Work Order Changes No. 1 we see they dropped the M from the push face.

What is not pointed out is that the  area where the spring detent rides is a shape change.

This is depicted on our web pages, but seems to go unnoticed.

I do receive emails asking about these catches, so I figured I would share on the forum for discussion.

It is my guess that the drop of the M is possibly as a time/cost savings factor.
Or maybe due to how these catches are made. I suspect some form of centrifugal or lost wax casting where the M might not transfer well, or to fragile of a detail for the process.

After I posted the link above it sold in short order. I hope it was one of our members!
If anyone else is looking he listed another, priced very reasonable IMHO

This is one that I recently sold to him in a lot of spare parts. I can vouch for it being the real deal.
