I have bought from dupage trading a 30 round hardback magazine "from a crate dated April 1945"
I hear that there were no copies of early 30 round magazines. Is that true?
Well I took photos from the moment I unwrapped it and then immediately stripped the mag
And will attempt to post these photos. In the hopes that greater men than myself may judge it.

the follower was a bit sticky and rough at first I doubt it would have been reliable at all without doing a bit of polishing to the follower

really the only thing the makes me question it was a very slightly rough edge on the side of the holes inside the mag body. And how pristine everything was including the paper which almost seems to have a plasticy type of coating on the inside and a very thin layer of brown cosmoline. Very thin. It all just looked so brand new inland cant imagine it to be 80 years old

slight discoloration to the lugs perhaps because it was flame hardened?

good bright blue finish. But these weird scratches straight from the paper are surely noteworthy

Not aware of any "fake" hardbacks. Dupage is a reputable company. I believe that your mag is legit, if not than many of us have been duped by Dupage!

Wayne is correct, there is no known fake hardbacks. If the middle bar in the letter E in SEY is shorter than the one above it and below it, then that is a legit sey stamp. Like Wayne said though dupage is a reputable company. The reason is is difficulty in manufacture of the hardbacks. The split back versions made manufacture a lot simpler. Even Seymour had trouble making the hardbacks, a lot of them show up with ripple looking marks on the sides of the magazine body from the stress of bending it into shape

Whoops thought I had posted a Pic of the stamp

Fascinating so even usgi will be rough and need deburring to function well if it's never been used?
That could account for those who say even the original 30 rounders aren't super reliable.

I doubt it would need deburring. Especially if it's on the inside. It will not impede the function of the magazine. All it needs is a good cleaning, taking off the cosmoline and she's ready to be used. I have never had any issues out of any of my USGI 30 round magazines regardless of the markings or who made it. If you have any used USGI 30 round magazines that have been heavily used, there's a seller on eBay in Texas that sells Vietnam era 30 round magazine springs made by okay industries that are USGI that will make those older 30 round magazines function like new.

Sorry I'm posting from a phone. And this site is quite complicated to figure out. These are also my first posts so I apologize for any strangeness in the pics.
I'm just happy I could even download them at all.

And yes the mag was quite sticky when the follower was pushed down into the mag there quite alot  of friction even after cleaning the Cosmo off.
Maybe pushing the follower up and down enough times would work itself smooth.
I didnt even attempt to load and shoot it as I assumed it couldn't possibly function well.
So I took the follower out and polished it knocked the rough edges off. Same to the feed lips and it fed 30 rounds with no malfunction. I haven't had the ammo to shoot it more.
But I hope these quirks explain why I was suspect of it's originality

No need to apologize, we know the system can have a learning curve for uploading and inserting into a post.
Like I said, very good pictures.
As to the stickiness, I have been handling lots of mags lately and photographing for out web pages. I have been using isopropyl alcohol wipe down with good success. Many already have this in their medicine cabinets.
When I am done I just wipe down with some gun oil for storage.
