Found it at a local pawn shop.  Other than being very dirty inside, it seemed to be in pretty good condition. Couple of things found during cleaning

Need to stake the gas piston nut as it came out while brushing it with a cleaning brush
Need to replace the spring guide rod. Looks like someone ground it off at the taper

Has the roll marks for Jacksonville AR
But a lot of things don't match up to what's on the Iver Johnson page. So I thought I post up some info to add to the knowledge base.

Roll mark looks like the 83-85 mark
Serial number is prefixed with AA but serial number is at rear of receiver not front.
Serial number is higher than any reported to date AA68515
Cast Receiver
Has the swaged gas block
Type 3 barrel band

Hi and welcome, belairbrian. Thanks for sharing the info on your Iver Johnson. I'm the researcher and author of the web pages.

It has been a few years since I authored those pages. I update them as more info becomes available or as people find corrections that need to be made, but given I'm involved with the web pages of all three websites, doing my own research, and networking with others doing their own research, I'm not actively searching for serial numbers.

Your info helped me find something it appears I omitted when initially constructing the pages. Can't believe I didn't add it. So many carbines, so little mind. Carbines with the markings of AMAC were in the AA64981-AA66193 range. By AA66271 the company remained AMAC but went back to marking the carbines with the Iver Johnson name and logo. For which the highest s/n I have is AA73377. I will be correcting and updating the web pages, thank you. May take me a week or two but it will get done.

S/N's AA66271-AA73377 were a combination of "commemorative" carbines of various types, along with left over receivers acquired by Numrich Gun Parts after AMAC/Iver Johnson closed. These commemoratives were the Stars and Stripes, National Guard, and Anniversary commemorative models.

Is the swaged gas cylinder this one or something different?

If it's like the one above, then your carbine was probably built by Iver Johnson, as a division of AMAC. If it's something different, it was possibly one of the left over receivers someone bought and built into what you have. If it is different than above, I may be able to ID who made the barrel if I can see a pic of the gas cylinder and 4" of the barrel in front and behind it.

The barrel above was specific to the carbines made after Imperato re-acquired Iver Johnson. Several Stars and Stripes carbines with serial numbers close to yours were purchased new retail in late 1991 and early 1992.

Since your carbine is probably over 30 years old, probably made during a time the company was going out of business, and was recently purchased as used, I strongly recommend getting its headspace checked. Something I recommend for all used carbines, GI included.

The picture you posted looks exactly like the receiver on this one.

Hadn't really intended to buy it, was actually buying a ladder when I saw it.
But I figured make an offer, and they through in a Union Hardware mag, a KCI mag and 60 rounds of S&B ammo.

As far as head spacing, we're lucky to have a gunsmith with over 50 years experience in our gun club.

Seems commercial models just follow me home.

A Federal Ordinance that needed a new sear (actually replaced the entire trigger group), this the lowest 1985 build seen so far.
A Howa that is really nice.
Now this one

Iver Johnson pages have been updated, finally. Now I'm working on a small update for Fulton Armory. Been communicating with their manager. Newly manufactured round bolts, new flat bolt in the works, new receivers just starting to arrive. All GI spec, as they've done prior.

Prices are a clue as to what a newly manufactured GI carbine would cost nowadays.
