New to the forum. I have aM1 carbine that I will never sell, but need to place a value on for various reasons. Low 200,000 s/n Inland. Post war rear sight, flip safety, m2 catch, and type 3 barrel band. Average use patina on otherwise great ww2 parts gun example. WW2 original low wood, 2 hole upper stock. 5-44 inland barrel. Good muzzle and throat, shiny rifling.

But.... Bubba needed to put a fuckin scope on it, and decided to drill + tap 4 holes in the receiver for one of those ugly 60's universal mounts. Its barely visible with the stock on, and knowing what family member did it (a machinist by trade), they were filled with remorse and regret. Luckily they didn't butcher the stock to fit the mount too and instead scrapped the plans.

How much do you think this wrecks the value? Assuming roughly $1200-1300 is a good estimate if it DIDN't have the holes.

Thanks!

hello and welcome to the forum. Most of us cuss like sailors, but we don't tend to do it publicly on the forum, just saying. The experts will be along shortly to give you an estimated decrease in value but it is still going to be a good shooter to someone regardless of those drilled holes. At least it was done on an arsenal rebuild and not something original haha

Some use Dome Head Positive Stop Plug screws found at Brownells and Midway.
Type that in a Google search and you'll find Slotted flat tops on Amazon and by Forster at Midway.

Have heard of guys using Loc-Tite, grinding the excess off the outside and touching up using Brownell Oxpho Creme.
Others here will know more about this.

Just read before completely grinding levelpeening the screws usually eliminates the seam between male and female threads, or it at least helps.

For Value area can vary it. Maybe best to look over, list your parts and look over Ebay Completed Auctions.
Your $$ will be found in the:
Front Sight
Marking on Bayo band...... If a High C on the Left it equals $$
Barrel
Complete or parted out Trigger housing
Bolt complete or parted
Op Slide
Rear Sight
Stock
Recoil Plate
Butt Plate
Hand guard
Ejector, Extractor, Plunger, Firing Pin, Springs and Pins

Even the Receiver still has value. We have members here that have mounted scopes. Some that were 'Plugged' and done with care were hard to see without it being pointed out. Price out the parts they aren't getting any cheaper.

And Welcome to the Censored  Forum

Although these guys gave you some good info, it isn't what you asked for. Your estimate of value without the holes is pretty accurate. But with the holes, it drops the value down to around $800-$900. Sorry to say. If it is a good shooter, it might go a little higher, possibly $1000.
