I purchased an M1 Carbine (IBM w/ Underwood barrel) several years ago from a local gunshop. It has the later sights and probably went through the refurbishing process at some point in time. The receiver is not stamped with the US Cal .30. Did some of the IBM receivers make it through manufacturing without getting stamped? Thanks in advance for your input.

Is it a bavarian return? They would sometimes polish off the US markings. Ant pictures

The stock has been refinished (no cartouches other than what appears as a faint RIA shadow). No other markings on the metal other than US manufacturer markings. The "ears" on the front sight were ground off, along with the front sling mount. Hope this helps. Thanks for the info.

The cut off ears sound very much like a Carbine being used in Germany. There was a stupid law in place several years ago which imposed some changes on old military weapons to make them look less military. On the carbine they usually had to cut the ears of the front sight, the bayonnet lug needed to be removed and the sling cut in the butt stock needed to be closed. We still see some carbines like that over here in our area.

Re: bluing, if it ever was it has worn off long ago. It has a greenish tinge to it, same as the barrel. The stock still has the sling cut out. I don't believe it ever has a bayonet lug, based on what I've read in a few books re: IBM carbines. The receiver is smooth, no grinding marks where the stamping would normally appear. Just think it is interesting and looking for input. Regardless, I've got my M1 Carbine and I'm happy with it! I've tried several time to upload photos taken with different devices with no luck, am told the file is to big. Guess I might have to tape a Polaroid to the screen. Thanks for any input.

Send me pic and i can resize.
If unmarked from factory that would be worthy of a "newsworthy item" article |

I've taken several photos. Do I email them to you? If so, what email address? Thanks.
