High all..I’m new to the forum and also new to carbines…I inherited this m1 carbine from my uncle..He had it for many years..It was caked in cosmoline..I took off what I could so far,but left cosmoline in the barrel..What I have seems to be a unfixed national postal meter with a Marlin barrel..The finish seems to be the original finish. The stock still has cosmoline, but I was able to get some markings. The stock has cross canons,Rap,p,j in oiler,ki sling,Marlin on barrel no date..looked up date on national postal meter serial numbers..late 1943 early 44..

Cosmoline heaven! Surplus guns in cosmoline are so much fun to clean up. Your carbine has been rebuilt but nothing wrong with that. Make sure the bolt is well cleaned (having a bolt tool helps) as well as the barrel of course and see how it shoots.
