I am wondering if trigger housings are being faked. I bought one from a dealer who I have now learned sells fake parts. I had to scrape out the holes to get other parts to fit. I came across this Trigger housing, and I am wondering if it is legit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The TH you posted looks okay to me. The only time I've encountered tight holes such as you described were with a couple of obviously refinished Type 2 trigger housings I bought from Sarco that had phosphate build up inside the hammer and trigger pin holes. I was able to easily chase them out with the correct size drill bits. Was worth it for the price. I think I paid $75 each for them.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I paid quite a bit more for mine. It has a rough, pebbly surface and Inland cannot be read in the logo. I did clear out the holes, and the parts do fit but compared to my other three TH it doesn't seem to fit in. I didn't realize these parts were being reproduced and I'm wondering if I can bring my carbine back to correctness with ORIGINAL parts. Thank you Jack for your input.

Your trigger housing looks legit to me. It is not common to come across faked trigger housings for the common ones. More often it is more common trigger housings that are altered to look like IP or double bevel trigger housings.

The TH assembly you just posted looks like one of my roughly refinished Sarco trigger housings with a number of early parts (mag catch, hammer and safety) installed. The Type II mag catch looks really worn.

I didn't notice the serrations on the mag catch until right now. The carbine is serial numbered 252,458. I I believe that Mag Catch is correct for that serial Number. I wish the serrations were stronger.

I read a post on a different forum that stated there was a guy in California and Minnesota who sold reproduction parts. I too am a fairly new carbine owner and worry that I may get burned on a fake part. I plan on restoring my carbine to its original configuration, so I have to enter the world of carbine parts without the knowledge I wish I had. This forum has been very good to me. David

There are a number of different posts throughout the "Cheers and Jeers" section of the forum that mention parts sellers that should be avoided.

I just seen where BB now known as carbinecollections on ebay sold a IP front sight marked IPN and number 4 it was 6 months ago for $350.
Wish I could have seen that. Appears he hasn't sold in the last 6 months, but has been buying trigger housing parts, front sights and barrel bands. Leaving automated feedback for the sellers. This is a seller to watch out for. Ch-P777

I too have noticed he has not sold in quite a while on eBay. That is hilarious since he thinks not leaving a seller feedback will leave no trace haha. Brian barone collectibles or whatever he goes by now is the definition of sketchy. Before we all discovered he was truly a fraud, I bought a mag catch with plungers and springs in the original package(One of the few real things he had) off of him and to be honest with you, It bothers me it being in my collection just because I know where it come from. I know that sounds silly because it's 100% original USGI I just hate where it come from so I'll probably end up getting rid of it and get an identical one from somebody else even if I have to pay more for it.

JD,
Doesn't sound silly, He flipped it for a profit.
BB or now known as carbinecollections is just one of many, though he is a persistent one. He's also a flipper who buys and resells at a profit. Some out there buy a fake and flip it to recover their funds, some fake a part to sell it for a bigger profit. Some just market all faked parts. So many of these guys that making a list is impossible. Best advice we can give any potential buyer is to ask for opinions before buying. I had that repro S'G' flip sight on a S'G' I purchased way back that even the seller questioned. Took me years to find a real one that I bought from Mortar doctor. I paid a fortune, didn't care, was so sick of looking at that Riverbank POS repop. Was like a Turd on the Thanksgiving table. So much better now on a otherwise 100% original gun. Wasn't BB a former Cop? The way he jumped up when confronted made me think about how many may have been roughed up and arrested after asking what did I do? Of course charged with 'Obstructing' At our LGS 2 guys sell similar stuff I buy, one I like the other is a A-Hole. A-Hole is cheaper but when I buy from nice guy I make sure to stare at A-Hole (2 tables over) while I hand over the cash and pick up same items he has for sale. I've even stopped by A-Holes table afterwards to pack items from nice guy in to my pack. Ch-P777 |

haha, That's hilarious Charlie, I could see you doing that right now haha! I don't even think he was a cop more like a security guard I think sleepless in a shadow or maybe it was Marty I can't remember but somebody dug deep and exposed his fraud.. so he was even faking being a cop haha
