I picked a very nice Quality Hardware M1 Carbine with serial number 47748xx at the SOS in Louisville Ky.  Seems mostly correct to me.  I thought 2 parts were not original to the way it left the factory, a type 3 barrel band.  Which I am sure has been replaced.  The second part that I thought was incorrect is a type 2 rear sight.  I was reading in Canfield's book, at the end of the production run, starting at serial number 4,700,000 they used a few adjustable sights.  Can anyone elaborate on this, does anyone have one close to this serial number?  How can you tell if a type 2 sight is original to the frame?

Here's an example close to your serial number with a Data Sheet to compare.

That is a nice Quality Hardware.  Appears that the rear sight has been replaced on that one.  Looks like it has peened marks where an adjustable sight was.

jearlky,
The QHMC in the link that jackp provided has it's original flip sight.  If I would've rotated the receiver a little more, you would see the chisel stake marks in the dovetail, not peened marks from an adjustable.
