Well I thought the butt plate was late Winchester but now leaning toward a NPM and could still be wrong. LOL Anyhow the letters WRA IMO have been added.

Marlin Made Stocks for Underwood with the M-U marking. According to War baby who sites the Rifle in America by p. Sharpe Marlin also produced carbine triggers and hammers.
With that it does not say M1 carbine. |

I would think you would get a better picture if you let the camera do the work without a magnifying lens to confuse it.
What the eye sees and the camera sees can vary wildly. Once you upload a picture and enlarge it you get to see what the picture really looks like.

Winchester made M2 stocks. They were long channel with the typical WRA flat bottom profile. Also: the rear inletting detail was slightly different than non M2 WRA stocks. There has been some discussion whether or nor not Winchester used some M2 stocks on non m2 production. I believe they did. Winchester used m2 trigger housings and slides in m1 production. I have owned a 7.2 and a 6.5 with original m2 stocks. IMHO and based on my observations. Still have never seen what I believe is an original pot belly M2 WRA stock.

I sure wish I knew more, I just gave a good friend one I had that was similar to your's. Flat bottom, pot belly, long channel, but mine had a flaming bomb in the sling well with a ordnance wheel the right side of stock, I posted 30 pictures on the Mil Surplus site and no one knew what it was My Marlin has both a M and a flaming bomb but is a short channel pot belly. Don't know what to tell you on your's, except it looks like it would make a nice M2 stock for someone. |

Here is a CMP auction listing, where they describe the stock as being a pot belly W marked stock. They don't say Winchester ??

I have seen CMP auctions where whomever lists it either has bad information or repeats the marking in the adjoining piece. The example here states <font face="Times New Roman, Times, serif" size="3">W potbelly stock, with a W 2 rivet handguard. What is nice is they have large pictures you can download by right clicking. I do not see a W anywhere in sling well. It does appear to be a slight pot belly with no cut out. I have heard there are 3 types of pot belly stocks in relation to the belly. What is interesting is the CC. Does anyone know who's it is?

Just looked at auction pictures again. Without a W in my mind. I see S HB at bottom of slingwell. What say you? I have also seen those stocks narrow at TH making them appear to be a slight pot belly. That cartouche would be more consistent a SP CC |

It does appear to have a S-HB in the slingwell. Whatever it is, it's not a Winchester. The angle of the slingwell cut is all wrong.
