I misunderstood "The barrel in front of the receiver" The top of the barrel breech area looks polished. ![]() Earlier inland barrels have been reported with a letter or number on top of the breech area. Inland barrels have been reported with the flaming bomb on the side in the date range of that barrel. A six digit receiver starting with 21xxxx (if I am seeing correctly) I would expect to see a early 1943 dated barrel. The stock is probably a post war pot belly. |

Stock couldn't be a JL B with 3 holes in the Butt.
We might be able to tell you more about it if you measure the front barrel channel and if it has a factory M2 cut. A side profile view will help. While measuring the front barrel channel length, look for the letters SA stamped on the top outer edge, usually on the left side. Springfield Stocks have 3 holes on the Butt. Sorry I thought I had it, but was wrong ![]() Ch-P777

Dan, On page one the OP mentioned " the barrel is states: Inland MFG. Div./General Motors.7-44" JackP, Also pointed out this is a likely replacement barrel. The 'Polished' off area you've pointed out I've came across a couple barrels that had been scrubbed of the Italian FAT / Star and 2 digit / date stamp. Just enough remained on both to positively ID the markings. Neither barrel showed any sign of ever being import stamped, and both were OD checked with gages. This one looks very similar, but that isn't a bad thing... Ch-P777 |

@Charlie, OP wrote "The barrel in front of the receiver" having some eyesight issues, and the polished area went I thought was where he was talking. Maybe I did catch part of a FAT stamp. Like I said, barrel of that date range we have seen the OB. Look at the picture of the butt, do you see a hole or marking under the top hole? I have seen 3 hole stocks with two additional tiny holes or impressions. I think these were on the kapur/Southeast Asian made stocks?

Has anyone else noticed that this receiver has the "dot" preceding the "30 M1" in the nomenclature on the front ring. I believe this is the highest Inland serial number reported with such a marking. Check CCNL 346-5. Hunterman noted the same thing on the 210424 "Featured Carbine" which predates this carbine. See here:

@Bruncster, the bolt in the picture you posted marked "11S" is likely an early Standard Products bolt. I would recommend saving it as a spare and have your carbine's head space checked with the bolt marked "A.I." which is a later Inland bolt, appropriate for a "shooter".

thank you. I’ll do that. Took it out to shoot over the weekend. Unfortunately, I did not get to shoot it, but the folks I took did and loved it.

Collectors who are obsessed with tracking "variations" in markings and manufacturing processes will note such changes when sufficient data has been collected to make a definitive observation. That is the case with the presence of the "dot" on this early block of Inland carbine receivers as reported in CCNL 346. The only "significance" is that when such exceptions are noticed, as is the case here, one can for a moment claim there is something "special" about this carbine. Eventually, someone else will report another Inland carbine with a later serial number that has the same "dot" and yours will no longer be "special".
Us collectors tend to be like that.

Maybe "obsessed" is too strong a word. How about "interested"?

Roger, don't toss it! It might have the "missing receiver cut" (CCNL 341-3) seen on carbines beginning mid 1943 or the "small font" serial Number (CCNL 346-5) found on S/N's below 183221. That would make it "special".

I guess the obvious questions do I have fun with it and shoot it or not. I’ll have it head spaced again with the second bolt.

Of course, you should have fun and shoot it. The "dot" will always be there. Hopefully it will head space okay.
