Ha, I had forgot reading about that one. Perhaps I should just stick with the USGI models? But that takes the fun out of collecting. I guess you're never really done and so the quest continues. Thanks for the reminder.

Riesch 8th edition sums up all the changes on page 235 and says the KJ and BW may not exist. I discussed the 8th edition did not have enough changes to justify buying if you had the 7th. Ricca was a valuable source of information. He was correct on most things, however not everything. (who is?) The KJ oiler being obvious as existing. The finish on oilers early on were all blued but wore easily from sling friction. I am fairly sure all the International Silver oilers were originally blued. After the war things like oilers and magazines were pulled out of packaging and phosphate coated, put back in the packaging or repackaged. I am sure some have seen oilers in the box for sale, and they are refinished with a phosphate coating

In another thread I am working on magazines and question the existence of certain markings. Lukes cites Riesch as a source. I cannot say with 100% certainty that the below is inaccurate, but it is most likely inaccurate information. Riesch uses a different system than that which is commonly used, so I did not fact check his types not am I addressing his missions Page 142-143 magazines: Winchester: LW, I believe this is only in Riesch and is poor reporting. Looking at reported type 5 base [Riesch type II] I would say someone was reporting a LU, which is for Underwood W marked 30 round mag, he states questionable. This has been repeated since at least his 4th edition. Irwin Pedersen: IP-K, The observed marking is I-P-K with very short dashes. I am not ruling this one out pending seeing an actual mag Saginaw SG: K-SG *(dash), there is a K-S'G' for Grand Rapids plant, but the one reported for Saginaw plant is KSG absent the dash. Lukes also questions this marking. JLC-SG, Like above the Grand Rapids plant had the JLC-S'G', but none observed for the Saginaw plant U-SG Again, Grand Rapids had U-S'G'. Standard Products: List IS and SS, both of there are ordnance direct contracts, International Silver and Seymour Smith respectively. Miscellaneous: for the 30 round magazines he lists several commercial magazine makings. Has anyone ever seen a SU marked 30r magazine? Another magazine link of ongoing research unrelated to Riesch http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/forum/magazine-project-pt-2-autoyre_topic7417.html?FID=95&PR=3 |

Dan, Riesch did correct some of his magazine info in the 8th edition. (note I said some not all)
IP-K and K-SG are no longer listed. (pages 172-173) IS and SS have been moved from Standard Products and are now in Government Direct Purchase. W and SU are no longer listed in his 30 round mag section (page 178)

I just found my 8th edition, He lists UN 30 round as Union Hardware and 30 round IU in a circle as Underwood. Underwood made no magazines! Both of those magazines were made by Scherer and discussed in the newsletter articles by Larry Horner. has anyone ever seen a AI or AI hardback30r? I previously overlooked this one as I have been concentrating on the 15r. Might want to add that to the error list
