   Greetings!
New member here!  I'm trying to gather as much information as I can on a 30 Carbine that I inherited from my grandfather years ago.  My grandfather was an airplane mechanic in WWII and got this rifle sometime after the war.  My dad believes he had it as early as the early 50's, but it could have been longer.  It appears the markings are consistent with all Underwood parts.  There is a U with two dots in the magwell that I couldn't get a good picture of.  

The interesting part is the name "Bill Deidric" (not my grandfather) is engraved on the left side of the stock and on the bottom of the grip.  I have read through a bunch of these threads to learn about these guns.  I didn't see any other markings on the stock that would indicate a rebuild.  

I also have a few of the magazine pouches, extra magazines, and a manual.  

Any information you could provide would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

	Glad you made it in. You can go a larger on the photos. I think orienting them landscape will allow something around 850, and certainly 800 pixels wide. As mentioned in your milsurps thread, the stock was made by Jamestown Lounge for IBM. Others here can help with pointing out details. Don't worry about photographing the stamp in the magwell. Its the more subtle things that are often clues about manufacturing. The buttplate's finish looks really black from the side. Lets see another view.

	I'm pretty sure that stock was initially on an IBM.

	Hi and welcome to the Forum from New Mexico! Yes, landscape and larger! I had to download and enlarge the stock photo to see the "JL-B" in the sling well. It's a sweet looking carbine.

	The forum software is dynamic, which means a large picture gets downsized and a small picture is slightly enlarged. The forum has a limit on the size of the file of 500kb (kilobytes) The maximum size that the forum will display is measured in width and that would be 750 dpi (dots per inch) I have found that 720 dpi is optimal and saves the storage space (in factor of gigabytes) Keeping the size to 720 or less leaves more storage space for each user in number of photos stored, and keeps costs of the forum down. A tip for those that copy and paste from their file manager. Click the photo displayed in the manager so it changes from preview size (small) to actual size, then copy and paste where you want
