Calling all U.S. M1 Carbine experts! I recently came across what looks to be an original and beautiful example of an "early" WWII Inland Carbine (SN: 4.8M, high wood, flip sight, etc.) from the Michael Wamsher Collection of Shawnee, KS (whose collection has been featured in multiple editions of one of the collector/reference guides: Standard Catalog of Military Firearms). I have come to ask the experts regarding the originality of this Carbine's Type 1 Barrel Band. I have not had the chance to detail strip this Carbine; however, I have detail-stripped, and authenticated multiple Carbines from Michael Wamsher, and from what I could tell, every one of them seemed not only text book correct, but truly original and not restored. As an avid U.S. military firearms collector, I try to be well informed before any purchase (through the use of books and experience handling originals); however, I have never come across or handled an authenticated Type 1 Barrel Band! I look forward to all the experts chiming in, and ultimately learning more about this PAIN IN THE AS... I mean awesome experience known as M1 Carbine Collecting! And please don't sugar coat anything, I'm here to learn, not have my ego inflated. -Para ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

*CORRECTION*
I should have specified Type 1A Barrel Band with the wider sling swivel slot. Also, I forgot to mention that the swivel seems to be unmarked.

The "UI" Type 1 band often has the "mushy" spot welds. Sometimes the "I" is weaker than the "U", which seems to be the case with yours. Here's an example of this on one of my carbines. I think yours is okay. By the way, the unmarked swivel looks okay to me, too.
