Ken Hackathorn said that the M1 Carbine was his generation’s AR-15 and that he and his friends shot a lot of them when they were kids. Hackathorn said that the Inlands were his favorite M1 Carbine based on workmanship and reliability. Inlands run – no doubt about that.

My favorite shooter is a 6 million Underwood. This carbine is dependable and is a great shooter.

A reason for the reliability of this carbine is probably because of the upgraded/improved parts – type 3 hammer, round bolt and this carbine has an E379 operating slide with the increased dwell period. The operating slide is Underwood marked with the number 7160091 stamped on the underside. This operating slide does not have the later cam shape, however. These improved operating slides are referenced in CCNL #363-4 and an Underwood E379 operating slide is described in NL#338.

Anyhow, I love my underwood.

I love my little rebuilt Winchester. She has most of the upgrades as you mentioned above and mine is very reliable as well. Very very few hiccups with my Winchester. Mine is a spring tube variant and still retains its original barrel and it's still quite accurate. I would actually trust my life with my Winchester if I had to without much concern going by her past performance

In like to shoot all of them but they all have to be reliable or they get fixed. I guess I shoot my 9mm conversion the most. I reload for about 15-cents a round and 9mm off the shelf is around 22-23 cents. Lots more shooting for a lot less $$ and I can’t see much past 40-yards anyway.

I have 15 of them. I don't have a favorite. I shoot all of them including the rare ones. I enjoy them all.

I have an early inland that I built from a stripped receiver using all updated parts (accept the safety). I used a late gm barrel with a blue sky stamp, round bolt, unknown vintage inland trigger assembly, mid war stock modified for a ultimak forearm with a LER scope. I also cut the very tight chamber a little deeper (still within specs) to ensure reliability with my reloads. It is ultra reliable and accurate for a carbine.

When I initially bought the gun, it was converted to 45 Winmag with really nice early parts that I used for other rifles. I sold off the barrel and bolt.

This rifle is totally reliable and my wife and I shoot it every time we go to the range. My other (30+) M1s don't get shot much but they are much prettier.

It is by far my favorite shooter.

In close second is a very well used (beat to crap) later "correct" Standard Products which is just as reliable.

I sold one of my "shooter" grades yesterday. I miscounted when I said I had 15. I forgot to count my "white bag" carbine which is stored in a different vault from the others. Now I have 15 and I have a buyer for another shooter grade. I will soon be down to 14, but I don't think I'll be selling any more. At any rate, all but the white bag carbine go to the range occasionally. I'm keeping the white bag just as it is; preserved. I have no favorite, but I do have a few that due to rarity don't get shot much.
