@Boz, can you check the barrel for a second "P". A pic of the mid section of the top of the barrel would help.
Front sight looks like the stamped and brazed type, any markings? Look at all sides including the front and inside the wings. 


If you're talking about my QHMC, I feel with near total certainty that it had the original wood from the factory. The stock was a type 2 highwood with cartouche and the handguard and stock showed wear signs that could have only been there if the wood had been together for a very long time.

The proof "P" on your barrel is larger and more characteristic of an Underwood proof mark, not a QHMC proof mark. The picture below shows each type of proof mark side-by-side, your larger Underwood proof "P" on the right. The proof "P" on the left is from my 1.56M QHMC carbine that has a Rock-Ola barrel.
