I'm trying to find some specs on the transformer inside the m3 power pack. I realize the input is 6v and output is 20kv. I'm trying to find a contemporary equivalent. Does anyone have a manufacturer and product number for the original? Or is there a modern equivalent? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ari, there is a bit more to it than the voltage. The voltage can kill you if not done properly. Since the scopes
became surplus in the 60s many have made somewhat suitable replacements.
Some not so suitable. Before I go on, do you have a background with HV and know the precautions? Edited by Dan Pinto - Feb 11 2026 at 7:23pm |

Just an fyi for you and anyone else who views this post, the power packs made for the M3 Sniperscopes were a rush job in design and manufacture. As were the M3 Sniperscopes. The M3 Sniperscope was in R&D when North Korea invaded the South and the design wasn't ready. The Engineers had trouble finding a company who could manufacture the power supply. Oak Mfg knew power supplies, but these were something new and different. The first power supplies were recalled, delaying deployment. Finding a working surplus M3 power supply, even in the late 1960's, was rare. A few surplus dealers started making their own versions using improvements in the technology. We've seen some pretty scary home made power supplies made over the years. Making one of these needs to be done by someone with a very good and current understanding of all involved. Dan has seen the scary ones first hand, and has the experience of having successfully created safe ones. Jim |
