On Saturday, I went to the OGCA show at the Clark County Fair grounds in Springfield Ohio. I promised my wife that I was only going for parts and wasn't going to buy another carbine. Well, I was true to my word; more or less. All I bought was a receiver in an M2 stock with a ruined barrel, and a replacement barrel. The main reason I bought it was because it had a scope mount on it that looked somewhat military. I ran into Dangle at the show and we had a short discussion about it. I told him I thought I had enough parts to rebuild a shootable carbine out of it. Turns out that I was 2 parts short; a front sight key and pin. This is a picture of the end result. Sometimes it pays to have a lot of spare parts.
The wife can't complain. I showed her what I bought before I started the rebuild.....But I'm still sleeping in the living room anyway. I just can't seem to win!

I like it.  How's that sight position working out?

I just pushed it on in line with the key slot. When I get or make a key and pin, I'll "permanently" attach it. I won't be able to try the scope until the weather cools around here, but it looks like it aligns well with the receiver. BTW the scope is one that was made for the M1c Garand.

Can you take some pictures of that mount. Is the dovetail removed?

Hi,
Is the Scope an M84 or a Lyman Alaskan All Weather?
If it is a Lyman Alaskan and it has a B series number, then it is for the Garand M1c. These series numbers were only used for the army at the time.

I know it's a Garand scope, but it is what I had on hand. Like I said, spare parts. It fits so it is there. Like a hand grenade....close enough!
The dovetail is intact. The base of the mound slides into the dovetail like the base of a type 1 sight. It is a snug fit. The front is tight to the receiver and could easily be soldered in place, although it hasn't been. I don't think I want to do that. I know the mount will likely move when and if I fire it, but I don't expect to do that very much.
The scope is an M82G2 by Hi-Lux Optics. CMP had a bunch made for the M1c Garands that they sold. I just happened onto one and stuck it into my spare parts box.
The receiver is an Inland serial number 2998296. The stock is a very nice Inland M2 with pretty tiger stripes and a faint Ord. wheel ghost. The rest of the carbine is just a mix of whatever parts I had in the parts box.

Sorry about the poor quality of the right side. I couldn't get the camera to do any better! The left side turned out much better.

Matt if you were referring to the position of the scope vs ejection, I don't know since I haven't had any opportunity to fire it yet. I can't take extreme heat anymore and the temps here have been in the 90s. One of the books written by Ruth and  Duff said that the military tested a similar set up and had a FTE rate of just over 2%. I would expect a similar rate from this setup.

It is interesting to note; a type 5 slide will not work with this setup. The top surface of the bolt cam area is slightly higher than any of the earlier slides and hits the bottom of the fore end of the mount. All earlier slide types have a clearance of approx. .1 inches. The mount was obviously made for carbines with the earlier slide types.
