Very nice. You probably know this already, but the gray paint on the rear sight is original. Post up some pictures of the stock markings in/out if you can.

And yes, I will post some up close pictures of the CC cartouche, and the W's in the sling well and on the Handguard.

Beautiful carbine, no question! Must be the angle, that stock cartouche just seems too large to me for a late WRA carbine. Maybe it is just my old eyes?

Beautiful late Winchester, just as built. Probably never issued, I have a similar 6.6 that looks new. Good score! |

Thanks, I am tickled with it. It shoots awesome, but makes me nervous shooting it cause it is like a brand new 77 year old rifle!

I won't fire mine unless I really had to, I have a couple mixmasters for the range. I'd hate to crack a the stock, it's like brand new & would be hard to replace!

I have your cousin carbine, 6502490 It's identical to yours just a bit ugler. They are twins. Mine was purchased about 40 years ago from the wife of a vet. She said he brought it back from Korea.

Actually there are as I've had more than a few, including ones that superseded ugly and went straight to fugly. |

I've seen a couple of fugly ones myself. They are beyond reasonable description. Just the thought of them makes me shudder!

Can someone chime in with regards to my magazine catch? It is the later style, for the 30 round magazines. It has an underlined "M" on the face, and a "W" marking that you can only see when looking at it from the magazine well?
My feeling is if someone was gonna go through the trouble of "correcting" a carbine, they would definitely get the low hanging fruit and change the mag catch as it is one of the easiest parts to swap out. I am curious if it is indeed original? I was talking with someone who has a carbine very near to mine in serial number, maybe 1000 lower, and his is identical to mine. Any experts care to help me out?

Ethan, not sure why you would think that your underlined M mag catch was not original. There was mixed use of both the M and M mag catches in the 6 and 7 serial blocks. The underlined M showed up as early as 6451xxx.
