Hello,
I'm a new member and I'm glad to post my first message. I recently saw an Inland M1 Carbine with SN 4 942 493 in an armory. It seems to have its original configuration. But I still have a doubt about 4 parts, especially during this transitional production period (late 43 - early 1944) : - Bolt: flat or round ? - Firing pin: type 2 or type 3 ? - Slide: t5 without rear slide modification and number 7160091, t5 with rear slide modification but without number 7160091, or t5 with 7160091 and rear slide modification ? - Stock: T2 or T3 ? I thank you, |

Hi,
This info is quoted from CCNL 361 The flat bolt was in use from start of serial block , the change to round bolt took place aprox at serial 5,076,xxx. The type II highwood was used till 4,935,xxx after that it was found intermittently and type III low wood was most common. Type 1 firing pin were found with NI mark 4,911,677-5,053,559 Type 2 R.I. (serif) RI (serif) R.I. 4,931,5,480,472 Type 3 I-I (serif) 4,883,555 5,547,xxx Type E379 at start of serial (rare) L379 with dwell mod but no part number till 5,076,522 after that most had 7160091 part number. Hope this helps.

Hi, Thank you very much. It helps well ! The carbine I saw (SN 4 942 493) has a flat bolt, T2 highwood, T2 R.I. hammer pin and L379 with 7160091 part number. 1-44 barrel. So I only have to change the slide to put a L379 slide without the part number ? Thanks again,

Personally, I wouldn't change anything as you have described. The newsletter quoted is great, but it only contains a sample of carbines in that serial block so the information could be off some in either way. There is no perfect source, just some really good ones.

Change anything ? Suits me because I save money ! Thank you for your message. So the carbine looks coherent. For information, I saw a topic about slides on this website. It claims "In Jan 44, there was an Ordnance Dept inter-office memo that mandated
that all slides with the increased dwell modification be marked with
7160091 in order to aid field maintenance in determining if the dwell
modification was completed". The carbine above is exactly in this transitional period. |
