Strange C-Tip Sling

   Did anyone else see this sling on eBay? It sold last week. Everything about it looks old, not like one of the many repros made in the last 20 years. I’ve seen a lot of carbine slings, but never one just like this. Looks like it could be legit or maybe a real original length of strap that someone added some hardware on to?

	Did not see it, but all of the metal and the marking look fake/repro to me.

	Somewhere I thought Bill Ricca posted about the webbing weave pattern being the same across the width. Maybe I'm confusing that with belt webbing. Regardless its the strap weave and alsmost like a selvage or a hem on the one edge that first caught my eye as odd. Assuming the buckle is correct, the tip is rather narrow. Some sort of strapping repurposed?

	It was Bill Ricca's position that the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot slings were fake. His reasoning included the weave was wrong, color wrong, marking in wrong location, Lift the dot fastener. He goes on to state that if the Quartermaster Depot were to make slings they would first get the proper ordnance drawing which would specify the above. He even points out that one book published these as USGI which was a case of poor reporting. Bill was a surplus dealer. He said that the government sold several truckloads of material that was no longer used due to switching over to nylon and other materials. Philadelphia was one of the locations that sold off the old musty material. It was shortly after this these slings showed up at gunshows smelling old and musty with crisp fresh ink. For the right price I would add it to my collection of reproductions, but I suspect it sold for stupid money to someone that believed it was real?

	The LTD fastener was my primary red flag, so I didn’t get into the bidding war. I suspected this was a case of using old materials to create something new. Didn’t recall Bill Ricca weighing in on these. Was it posted on his old website?

	Another Philadelphia QM marked sling sold on ebay today. This one looks a bit different than the one carbinekid posted above. It sold for $141.50. Not saying it's a fake but not about to say it is legit either. Pictures below, as well as Bill Ricca's thoughts on the Phila QM marked slings that was pulled from another forum.

	Thanks for posting. I tend to believe LR that these are reproductions. Whoever made them had access to good hardware. Too bad their true story seems to be lost to time and they are being passed off as real with an accompanying big price tag. This recent one sold for almost $150. Unless another older timer steps up with the real story I imagine that trend will continue.
