Helllo I have 2 stocks, both marked SA near the barrel band so I guess they are were made or marked by springfield armory. there are no other stock marks at all. The question is that under the butt plate both stocks have 3 holes in a vertical line. Both stocks are walnut M-2 style and purchased in the 80's on inland carbines . Why the 3 holes? Thanks

the holes are from the fixture that held the stock in a copy lathe.

a few other companies used similar or same machines. Others has pointed pins that pushed into the wood slightly. I think some companies may have trimmed the end off after lathe operations, therefore you do not see the pin marks
