Hello guys. A little question about M1 carbine barrels.
Who produced the best M1 carbine barrels during ww2 and what about post war barrels from springfield armory? My gunsmith has a 6/44 (7,64mm) inland gm and a SA 8/48 (7,64mm) replacemebd barrel he can put on my M1. Mint condition. What would be your choice? Greetings Carlo

What make is your receiver?
Has your smith measured the bore and chamber wear? If Mint, Inland barrel would add the most value, IMO. Others will reply And Welcome to The CCC, Charlie-P777

Hey Carlo, welcome... I can see from the picture that the rifling in both barrels is very good. They should both gauge well and be excellent shooters. I agree with p777, the Inland will be worth the most $ as a WW2 produced barrel. All of my late Inlands with excellent barrels shoot great.

Who produced the best M1 carbine barrels during ww2 and what about post war barrels from springfield armory? is part of the original question. I am far from being well placed to comment on that but to be able to answer such a question would imply test of all produced WW2 barrels would have been conducted and recorded. Does such thing exist? I would be surprised.

Probably the best barrels were Underwoods. Button rifled, they were accurate and held up well.

I would go with the Inland if you have a Inland Carbine. Otherwise I'll be the odd man here and say get the barrel that gauges the best and you think will have the longer barrel life if your carbine is a "shooter"
My understanding is the Postwar Springfield barrels were of good quality
