Background
You may have noticed the Army manuals for the infrared scopes and gear are not something easily obtained. Not even decent copies for learning and using the equipment. We would have made them available as free downloads but those who take the work of others and resell it as if they did the work are not our favorite people. Those who format them like the originals and sell them as originals are simply con artists and thieves. We don't care much for them either. This happened with a number of people who downloaded the commercial carbine manuals and publications from our M1CarbinesInc.com website. Given the value of the information the IR manuals contain we still wanted to find a way to make them available to you while at the same time discouraging or preventing the actions mentioned above. The option we thought most appropriate was to enlist the assistance of a manual collector with a graphic arts background that cleans up and reformats high quality scans of the originals then offers them in a format few would copy to steal your money with. This collector puts his value in collecting originals. The copies he sells are for those of us who would like to at least have the information therein and at a reasonable price because they're sold customer direct. We found such a person in the form of Eric Nicolaus who operates NicolausAssociates.com. We have a policy of not endorsing any business while at the same time have a responsibility to you to pass along where you can find them. To this end we have supplied Eric with scans of originals loaned to us by owners for this purpose. If you've ever tried to restore an original you know how much time and effort it can be. This is what Eric does. We refuse to take anything in return. Any freebies get passed on to the owner of the original manual who was kind enough to share it for a short time. YOU being able to get the info at a reasonable price is our goal. Everything we do on these websites and forum is free information for you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- All this said, here's where Eric has the IR manuals listed for sale. This isn't a business endorsement. It's simply a source for the manuals should you so choose. http://www.nicolausassociates.com/M1_Carbine.htm IR Manuals he currently has available are:
In addition to the manuals Eric has available two things you may find very helpful.
One manual we are attempting to obtain to add to this list is ENG. 9-9341 - Engineer Supply Catalog: List of all Service Parts, Sniperscope M2 (July 1945). We are also seeking copies of the Maintenance Work Orders (MWO) related to the sniperscopes and battery chargers. We've done one article with illustrations explaining what a particular MWO required. Though our copy is absent the one of the pages. These can be viewed and downloaded as free pdf files on the forum dedicated to Newsworthy Items. All help is very much appreciated and not by just us. Everyone here benefits from this. We're a co-op effort. |
