Crosman M1 Carbine, BB rifle (wood stock)

Includes the original Crosman magazine (1). This item is in used condition (see photos). The slide/bolt works. The cocking mechanism works but it does not fire. It may just need a new gas gasket (readily available many places) but it has not been disassembled for close inspection. Larry purchased this in 1987. His kids may have used it. It's intact with normal aging.

Universal Firearms 256 Ferret Carbine w/Weaver side scope mount and unmarked scope

This carbine is in very good to excellent condition. Universal chambered it for the .256 Winchester Magnum cartridge. The receiver was milled from forged steel and is of their earlier design, not their hybrid they produced 1967 and later. It has a GI bolt, firing pin, slide, and a few of the smaller parts inside the it's Universal Firearms trigger housing. The front and rear sights were made by Williams Gun Sight. The scope has no markings but presents a clear image. Includes the sling and original Universal Firearms 10 round magazine depicted in the photos. If we can locate a set of .256 WinMag loading dies in this collection they will be included at no extra cost.

Underwood M1 Carbine converted to 5.7 MMJ by Johnson Arms

The 5.7MMJ markings on the top of the received behind the bolt identify this as a conversion done by Johnson Arms. Their conversions involved replacing the barrel with a commercial barrel sleeved for 5.7mm Johnson. Beyond this it depended on what extras the owner wanted. In this case it appears the Williams rear peep sight was the only other modification. The 5.7mm cartridge does not require alteration of the bolt or any parts other than the barrel. This carbine retains it's .30 cal. carbine markings on the receiver ring.

Note the receiver finish. I suspect a previous owner may have removed a high polished finish sometimes typical of the Johnson conversions. The GI bolt, slide and trigger housing appear to have retained their finish but for signs of wear from usage. The stock is a GI oval cut highwood stock.

This carbine is the carbine shown in War Baby Volume III, page 1502, figure 1737. It will include a certificate of authenticity identifying it as part of The Larry Ruth Collection.

Further on the GI carbines converted to 5.7mm by Johnson Arms http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_Johnson.html" rel="nofollow - can be found on our web page devoted to the 5.7mm carbines.

Wooden toy M1 carbines made using rejected carbine stocks began appearing in various sales publications towards the end of WWII. Then continued for a number of
years after the war ended. These were manufactured by several different companies. Some, but not all, indicated their name somewhere on the toy.

Some of this history can be found on our forum here: http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/forum/wooden-toy-carbines_topic3142.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.uscarbinecal30.com/forum/wooden-toy-carbines_topic3142.html

This specific example appears in War Baby vol III p. 1618, fig 1945. It was part of the Larry Ruth Collection. It has no markings identifying the company who made it. Larry believed it was manufactured by Parris-Dunn, one of the well known manufacturers of these toys. Others now suspect it was manufactured by a different company.

This example will include a certificate verifying it's authenticity as part of The Larry Ruth Collection.

Price: SOLD

Please submit questions or a desire to purchase by a private message here on the forum.

Note: This post has been reworded after input from a member more familiar with these toys than I am. Thanks much!

This specific example appears in War Baby vol III p. 1617, fig 1944. It was part of the Larry Ruth Collection. It has no markings identifying the company who made it but appears to be, or very similar too, those having the name Emergency Equipment Co., Grand Rapids, MI painted on the bottom of the hand grip. These markings are not present on this particular toy.

#141 Liberty Armory M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine, s/n EXP 01

Liberty Armory was Club member Larry Horner. During the 90's he assembled all of the carbines for Firearm's International
and Israel Arms International, and iai. After the demise of iai he acquired a number of their receivers and commercial
parts in lieu of money they owed him. He used these to assemble a number of carbines such as the two iai carbines above. To
which he added the Liberty Armory name.

At some point prior he constructed his own limited number of carbines using the Liberty Armory name. This was his first and a
prototype. The barrel and receiver are commercial. The stock is an M2 potbelly GI. He used various surplus GI parts when he
constructed this one. Included are the sling and a magazine. He used a plastic dowel in place of an oiler.

Larry Horner knew carbines and how to manufacture them. He had his own large collection from WWII manufacturers.

#167 Rowen-Becker M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

This was one of the first commercial carbines made. Rowen had been contacted by Bob Penney at National Ordnance in response
to Rowen's ad in Shotgun News claiming he could manufacture .30 cal. carbine parts and receivers. Securing a contract from
Penney Rowen had Rymer Casting manufacture the receivers and a few parts then had his machinist machine them. When Penney received
the first shipment the receivers had not been threaded correctly. Penney cancelled the contract. Rowen used the receiver and parts
to build his own carbines in the Rowen-Becker name. Becker was his investor and not involved other than financially.

The bolt and slide on this example are GI surplus. The barrel was constructed using a 1903 barrel inserted into the rear half
of a demilled Rock-Ola barrel. This carbine includes the sling, oiler, and a magazine.

Note: This carbine was manufactured in 1960. As you can see from the photos Rowen was not and did not have a highly skilled
machinist. This carbine may be unsafe to shoot. It needs to be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before firing.

#138 Underwood Carbine, T subcontract receiver s/n 2381099 - LeMag .45 WinMag Conversion

LeMag was the name of the company who made the conversions of .30 cal. carbines to larger more powerful cartridges in the 1990's. Judged theoretically unsafe due to the power of the cartridges, they've been in use now for over 20 years with no known failures. One owner in AK told me hunted with it without any issues. Larry's features a Choate fixed stock made specific for LeMag. The barrel is a commercial barrel with a gas piston housing modified for the .45 WinMag cartridge.

Depicted in the 1990's Shotgun News ad included below are Uzi Gal, Timothy LeGendre (owned LeMag), and Mikhail Kalashnikov (holding one of the LeMag conversions).

The color image of Kalishnikov holding a LeMag carbine was in Larry's files. Unknown where he obtained it. The barrel is longer than the barrel on the one being offered.

Includes sling and magazine modified for .45 Winchester Magnum.

The carbine below is depicted in War Baby! volume III, p. 1510, image 1745.

#159 Bullseye M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

Bullseye's carbine receivers were milled from forged steel to GI specs and feature a wide recoil plate tang. Bullseye used various
GI surplus parts that were still available and they're included on this carbine. These are the carbines that preceded the
carbines by Universal Firearms and some of the nicest commercial carbines made. The rear sight on this one was installed by
Larry as a prop. It's a commercial flip sight with fake markings. The sling, an oiler, and a magazine are included.

This particular carbine is the carbine shown in War Baby! volume III, page 1457, figure 1656. It's also depicted on our web page
with Bullseye's history.

#163 H & S M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

H & S Machine was owned and operated by two machinists, Haas & Storck. Those with the H & S markings preceeded the ones
they subsequently made under the Plainfield Machine name. Unlike their Plainfield Machine operation became, these were machined
and assembled only by Haas & Storck. They did a nice job. This one includes a number of surplus GI parts they used during the
time they made these.

The sling swivel is commercial, not original to H & S, and was added by Larry as the band it came with didn't have one. A magazine
is included with this carbine.

#157 Johnston-Tucker M1 Carbine, caliber .22 LR + shipping

Johnston-Tucker was the first U.S. company to make a carbine in .22LR. Unlike the others they used surplus GI parts
as they were still available at decent prices in the 60's. The receiver was made from aluminum. The hammer design was
altered to work with the rimfire cartridge. The bolt and slide were designed as integral. With use over time the impacts
of the slide against the receiver tended to snap the front of the slide off. This one is still intact.

The original magazine was a GI 15 round magazine with a .22 magazine insert. Few still survive and an original one is included
with this one. The damage to the finish you see on this receiver is due to the type of finish they used on the aluminum.

#165 Millville Ordnance (MOCO) M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

Millville Ordnance (MOCO) was the predecessor of H & S and Plainfield Machine. There have been many various stories by commercial
carbine manufacturers and marketing people of the 1960's claiming they had made carbines for the invasion of Cuba. This is
the only one we've found evidence proving it's kind of true. While building carbines for retail sales the owner of this
company supplied a number of carbines to Bautista for the re-invasion of Cuba. The carbines were seized as they were
loaded on a plane in Miami. As a result the owner of MOCO was indicted in Federal court and incarcerated. Leading to
the start of H & S carbines then Plainfield carbines.

MOCO carbines were built using commercial receivers. The barrel on this one is a 2 groove 1903 barrel inserted into the
rear half of a demilled GI barrel. Common for many manufacturers during the early to mid 1960's due to a lack of surplus barrels
and no company had yet to make them. Not inherently unsafe. See the MOCO web page. This one includes a magazine.

#204 Howa Model 300 Sporting Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

After the occuptaion of Japan Howa was the first company allowed to manufacture a firearm. The firearm they manufactured
was their Model 300 sporter. Used for deer and small game hunting in Japan. Howa had carbine experience. During the
occupation they manufactured carbine and M1 rifle parts under contract to U.S. Army Ordnance as replacement parts.

Howa attempted to obtain a U.S. based importer for these without success due to the volume of surplus GI carbines and
commercial carbines already available at prices less than what it cost Howa to make these. The only Model 300's that made
it to the U.S.A. were a couple provided as samples to prospective U.S. importers and a few brought back by U.S. service
members stationed in Japan who bought them. These tend to be the later versions of the Model 300 made in the 70's and 80's.

This Model 300 was their first version of this model, manufactured in the 1960's. Howa provided it to Ithaca Gun Company
in Ithaca, NY, for consideration of importing Howa's Model 300's. It has Ithaca's import mark stamped in the handguard
and top of the stock to the left of the bolt. The import mark and locations infers this example was imported circa 1969-1972,
after the 1968 Gun Control Act requiring the import mark but before ATF set import mark guidelines.

It's difficult to come up with an estimated value on this one due to it's rarity stateside. Only other like it we found was
brought back by a service member and sold for over $1600 several years ago. These are considered collector's items. Both here
and in Japan. They are a piece of history. This one includes it's original magazine.

This particular carbine is depicted on our web page with Howa's history. It's an all original Model 300.

#181 Williams Gun Sight, #2 of 50, Custom Sporterized M1 Carbine, caliber .30 Carbine, s/n U346

About 1964 or 1965 several dozen carbines were manufactured by Plainfield Machine for Williams Gun Sight who customized them
and introduced them as a limited series of 50. According to Williams they actually produced and sold less than 30. This is #2.

Sporterizing surplus military rifles for hunting was popular in the 1960's. From 1965-1968 Williams Gun Sight catalogs included
instructions and various parts for this purpose. While no longer popular this custom job is not only very rare but beautiful.
Williams used a custom Mannlicher style stock and handguard made by Reinhart Fajen. From the Williams catalog:

"This Williams sporterized M1 Carbine features a thumbhole-pistol-grip Mannlicher stock that is tastefully checkered and hand
finished. Metal is completely refinished and blued. The magazine is shortened to a five shot. Receiver sight is the new
WGRS-M1-CAR with precise windage and elevation adjustments and positive locks. The front sight is a .312 Ivory bead on a 9/32"
Shorty ramp. Swivels and the attractive carved leather, guide carrying strap complete the unique sporterizing of these collector pieces."

Surplus GI parts were still available at the time Plainfield manufactured this carbine. This carbines has An SG flat bolt, Underwood
slide, Plainfield trigger housing with several GI parts. The barrel was manufactured by Small Arms Mfg for Plainfield.

Williams customized many carbines in the 1960's but none are as beautiful as their limited series of 50.

We have no idea what to ask for it. You decide what it's worth to you and make us an offer. It's definitely a rare
beautiful piece of carbine history.

#071 Universal M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine, Teflon Green, s/n 137120

This is a Universal Firearms hybrid carbine manufactured in 1967 or 1968. It features a Teflon coating to protect the firearm
from the elements. For several reasons the bolts and sights were not normally Teflon coated. Contrary to
marketing efforts at the time it did not make the gun an underwater gun. Resulting in many rusting from a lack of
care and maintenance. This example is one of the few surviving exceptions.

This particular carbine is the carbine shown in War Baby! volume III, page 1564, figure 1857. It will include its original
magazine.

#205 AMAC Enforcer Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

The AMAC carbines were manufactured for a short time circa 1987 after the Iver Johnson carbine facility in AR was taken over by
Louis Imperato. Imperato switched back to using the Iver Johnson name after the first hundred or so AMAC's. Larry added the
handguard to this one. Includes a magazine.

#160 Ermas Mfg M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

Ermas was located in Steelville, MO. They were not the German company Erma-Werke. Their carbines included whatever GI parts
they could obtain at reasonable prices. The trigger housing and stock was made by Ermas. The stock appears to have been added
as it's not an Erma's stock. The stock and handguard appear to have been custom made from the same walnut stock blank. This one
includes a magazine.

Note: Ermas barrels were all 1903 barrels inserted into the rear half of a demilled carbine barrel. This is not inherently unsafe
and the manner in which Ermas did it shows they knew what they were doing. See their web page. Also, Erma's did not harden any
of their receivers. This one does not show the deformity(ies) well used ones usually have. See the pics.

#183 Inland Mfg (commercial mfg) M1 Carbine, caliber .30 carbine

For clarification, this carbine was manufactured in the 21st Century by the commercial company using the Inland name. It was not manufactured by the Inland of WWII fame.

This carbine has been fired but is in very good condition. It includes the sling, oiler, and a magazine. These sell for over $1100 new.

A word of caution ... my experiences with three of these are shown on our web page. The right bolt lug on this one needs to be
monitored for damage due to this company's improper hardening practices. This is essentially a dressed up Auto-Ordnance carbine.
All parts are manufactured by the same companies. Auto-Ordnance has a flat bolt version, Inland uses a round bolt version.
Auto-Ordnance bolts have not had these issues and are available for $60 from Auto-Ordnance's website.

#51 Underwood Model M1 Carbine, W subcontract receiver, s/n 2469113

Hessen Polizei, Sniper (reconstructed by Larry) http://www.bavarianm1carbines.com/hessen.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.bavarianm1carbines.com/hessen.html

During the 1960's a supervisor at the Hessen Police armory acquired a Diavari 1.5-6 x 36 mfg by Zeiss and sold commercially. He also arranged for the manufacture of a thumbhole Mannlicher type stock by Wolfe, a German custom stock manufacturer. The stock was made from high quality walnut. It was described as luxurious. Hessen made 30 of these carbines. "A few" of the carbines were placed in special gun cases lined with green felt with the interior form fitted to the carbine. The case interior included compartments for magazines and accessories. These carbines were no longer used after 1974/1975, due to the changes implemented after the incident at the Munich Olympics.

In 1983, the Hessen police sold all thirty carbines to Peter M. Busch Import-Export of Höchberg, Würzburg Kreis, Bavaria, Germany. Busch indicated all were marked with his company logo on the bottom of the trigger housing and on top of the barrel under the handguard. All were sold to collectors in West Germany.

The carbine below is not one used by the Hessen Police. Its German markings of the Bavaria Rural Police were removed by Bavaria when they sold the carbine. Wolfe had manufactured approximately 50-100 additional stocks. These were later sold in America by Interstate Arms. One of these was purchased by Larry and added to this carbine.

The scope on this carbine is a Hensoldt-Wetzlar Diavari 1.5-6 X 35mm Scope Larry purchased with the scope mount direct from Peter M. Busch Import-Export in Bavaria. Hensoldt was Zeiss's the military division. Larry's communication with Busch will be included with this carbine.

This carbine features a 20" custom bbl, CU flat bolt, U extractor, U firing pin, PI type IV slide, U type IV trigger housing, JU trigger, WU type III hammer, NI push button safety, U sear, EP-Q mag catch. The last four digits of the serial number (9113) are engraved in the bolt, stamped in the slide arm and the rear of the trigger housing.

Includes magazine.

The carbine below is depicted in War Baby! volume III, p. 1251, image 1267.

#174 Iver Johnson M1 Carbine, caliber .30 short carbine

The .30 short carbine was invented by Iver Johnson to circumvent French law for sales in France. A number of these still
rewmain in use in France. The .30 short cartridges was ever so slightly shorter than .30 carbine. The ammo was manufactured
for export to France for a short time by someone you may have heard of: Bill Ricca. The only difference between this
carbine and those in .30 carbine is a slightly shorter chamber for the slightly shorter cartridge. For anyone interested,
a finish reamer can easily alter these to .30 carbine.

These were manufactured by Iver Johnson during their time in Arkansas. This one includes the sling, oiler, and magazine. All
parts are original Iver Johnson.

#162 Global Arms M1 Carbine Receiver s/n 292

We haven't figured out who Global Arms was but their receivers were manufactured by AMPCO. Probably acquired in response to the ad for carbine receivers AMPCO placed in Shotgun News in 1960.
Despite it's appearance due to its lack of bluing this receiver was purchased by Larry as a fully functional firearm. Its Millville Ordnance barrel was scrapped as unsafe. Reproduction rear sight is included.
