I found a crack in my Universal’s operating slide a while back. I bought it used, so it wasn’t too surprising when the expected issues started popping up. In the thread linked above, replacement slides from Garand Parts and More are mentioned. They aren’t cheap ($100) but the reviews were good, and it’s certainly less expensive than finding a whole new carbine. The main question was: Would it work?

I put the replacement slide on myself without having to do any special fitting, greased it up and finally took it to the range today. I’m happy to say the new slide worked flawlessly. I definitely would recommend it to anyone whose Universal has been put out of commission by an old slide.
