Hate to break it to you but your barrel isn't worth a million bucks - lol. The barrel is not original to your carbine. Rock-ola manufactured barrels will have a marked gas cylinder, either an R on early barrels or Rock-ola as yours is marked.

Yeah, I know... Cry This is a very early inland serial number, the gun has had one or more complete rebuilds. Still, cool to have the Rock-ola barrel if you can' t have a Rock-ola built gun.

I bought another one from Royal Tiger (apparently M1 carbines are addictive). This one is with the earlier option, I got a Standard Products, SN 2180562 with an Underwood barrel. This is one hard used rifle, I had to mortar the thing to get the bolt open. It has a hardened accretion all through the action, which I have to scrape out with some dental picks. Really hardened stuff. Thank goodness I have a bolt disassembly tool, or I would never have gotten the bold apart. It was a struggle with the tool. The bolt is fouled with what looks like tar, but is most likely folssiized lube. It looks like someone at one time sprayed some white lithium grease on the bold. But the white stuff is absolute rock hard. I had to drive the firing pit out with a brass punch, it was totally immobile. This Carbine has a flat bolt, high stock, flip sight and clearly has not been serviced by an armory. The wear on the the bolt handle is amazing. I will post a vid of it once I get it back together with a spring kit from Wolff. Wait till you see how mangled the trigger spring is. It looks like someone used a nail to fabricate the trigger pin. If only this rifle could talk.

" It has a hardened accretion all through the action, which I have to scrape out with some dental picks."

If I may advise, when this happened, you can dip the whole thing (without the wooden parts) in gazoline or diesel for some time. That should dissolve the dried grease.
Also, a hard wood bit (boxon or oak) carved out flat or pointed is preferable to any metallic tool which may scratch the surface and ruin the protective treatment.

Acetone will de-crust dried goop too.

Thanks for the pointers, guys. Currently I'm soaking the parts in Mineral Sprits from the parts washer. I'm going to give ultrasonics a try too.

Congrats on the Carbine Jim. Just received my carbine from Royal Tiger. Inland serial 6438739 with a 6-44 Underwood barrel, Lumb Woodworking replacement stock with RRA, Red River Arsenal, rebuild markings. Dirty as hell but it is complete and functional.

I will clean it up and post a proper introduction in the near future.

Does it have a crossed cannons cartouche?

Not that I see initially. I will take a closer look during clean-up. Will take a couple of days.

After closer inspection I see no a crossed cannons cartouche on the stock anywhere. Only the LW in the sling well, the RRA on the left side of the stock and two P's. One in a square. Looks to me like an arsenal replacement.
