I’m relatively new to M1 carbines, so I purchased two from the batch of imports from Ethiopia by RTI to dive right in. I’m told that I’m very fortunate to have received this one.

Flip sight, push safety, and original barrel band. UN-QUALITY receiver with a W barrel, ME is only 1+.   It took me several hours to clean her up....

Did you ask for a Union Switch & Signal for QHMC carbine (UN-QUALITY)?

Are you aware that no parts made by QHMC are on that carbine?

I didn’t make a specific request, it was luck of the draw, and she’s exactly as I received her.  Im afraid I don’t understand your second question

Quality Hardware only manufactured 1 part for the carbine in house, it was the receiver, your receiver was made by U.S.&S. so your Quality Hardware carbine has no Quality Hardware parts.

oh, now I understand.  Pretty unique circumstances for sure...isn’t the rear flip sight made by quality hardware, or was it made by a contractor for them?

Been going cross-eyed for 50 years looking under rear sights with numbers starting at 44.
Cosmoline, you are a lucky guy. Must not be any collectors getting in the back door at Royal Tiger Imports.
Leave the carbine the way its been for a very ling time and cherish your lucky find.   Ron

Tell me about the stock markings. This is one of the reasons I was excited to hear about these Carbines.

She’s wearing an Inland IO stock with the crossed cannons stamp, hand guard appears to be “Q-RMC”

I was hunting for info on Un-Quality carbines and saw this post.  I make two who got an Un-Quality from Tiger Imports Ethiopian batch.

Mine isn't as nice as yours as I went with the idea of a 'project' carbine and got the lowest priced that listed.  Interestingly they said those were all Inlands.  Guess they missed the one I got as it was not an Inland :)

It had clearly been updated at some point as it had the Type III rear sight, later type safety and bayonet lug.  I'm guessing they just didn't take time to look under the sight as you can see the UN and on the other side the Y.  The serial number fits those too.

Image showing the comma, as well as one of the carbine on the left next to my Inland

So I got lucky :)

I'd say you were quite lucky to get an Un-Quality instead of an Inland.
I do believe they state somewhere in their site that all their carbines are post war reworks, so that is to be expected from this batch.

Underwood dated 11-43. The first 2 numbers are barely visible but the 43 is clear.  Sorry for the fuzzy image but you can make out the markings

Great bunch of carbines everyone!

Wondering where these carbines were stored in Ethiopia. Perhaps Addis Ababa, Asmara or Harar? Nothing yet, just dates.

BTW....here's mine.
