What was the convention on sear marking for type II Winchesters? The W on the side versus markings on top, is what I wonder about?   |

Just a few random thoughts with nothing to back it. The hole being in the area where they previously stamped them made them find a new location? From a stamping perspective the sear would have been put in a jig that had support where stamped. presumably a Rockwell hardness test. I have seen them on sides or sears, I do not recall them anywhere else on the sear.
