Hello,
I’m a Former Marine. I always admired the M1 Carbine and, while buying some parts for another piece at Midway, got notified of there imminent sale of improved Italian carbines. Like others, I couldn’t get my choice so I settled for a “G-VG” Inland. What I got is a Very early 1943, 6 digit s/n Inland mixmaster in a early, high wood RMC stock and hand guard set. It looks to be the original barrel and receiver combo at least. Barrel stamped 2-43 and  S/N 224614. The stock unfortunately has, what appears to be, an epoxy filler in front of the cross cannons and no other markings but a rack number sticker on the bottom of the postal grip. There are all kinds of markings on the flat of the barrel though including what looks like R M C

Glad to be here. I have already learned a bunch while looking though your site and from the post I’ve read while waiting to be approved to post

Welcome to the forum Devil Dog! Looks like you got a decent Inland, interested in hearing about what parts are inside of that thing.

Welcome aboard!

I have an observation (not a dig about the carbine). This is the second Italian import that I have seen with the swivel bent in a peculiar way. Anybody else noticed that? Just seems a bit odd to see the swivel bent from the center that way possibly from use of a different sling attachment…some sort of hook?

WS,
So far it looks like,
Inland front site
SG rear type 2 sight
Winchester slide
SG recoil plate
Standard manufactured trigger housing
Quality Hardware bolt
Mag catch is a NPM
I’ll dig some more and see what other parts I can identify. I’ve had it to full break down to do some cleaning but I wasn’t looking for stamps yet.

Floyd,
The stock and hand guard are beat up pretty good as well as the sling swivel. The Barrel it self shows almost no wear that I can tell.
I’ll try and get some good pictures and start another post later.

Welcome.
That's the wrong side of the Carbine to photo, though. :)

Here’s the other side ten. It’s got some filler and sanding that was there when in I got it.

High-wood I cut. If the bones are good (no splits, cracks, etc.) and despite the fact it has been abused, you could be pleased that you got that stock based on prices for I cuts lately.

I like the stock, period correct and all. I was trying to decide if I should try and clean it up some. I did wipe some grime off with Hoppe’s #9 and a rag then put a heavy coat of raw linseed oil on it before wiping it clean. Can’t decide if any more is to much or not. Everything else seems to be tight and right with it. I’ll have to see how it is after some shooting. Haven’t made the range yet.

I have a pretty beat up Inland high wood on a shooter that has definitely been thru and least one beach landing and maybe more, but it has character. Only marked with OI and the cartouche. Solid but scuffed and dented. Some things need to just need stay like they are.

I had an M14 well sanded with some filler in the stock and covered in some type of stain, horrible looking. I thoroughly scrubbed it with Murphy’s Oil Soap. When it dried it was almost white and I thought I had ruined it. Time passes and after a couple of weeks and the application of light coats RLO dried between coats, out came a beautiful tiger-striped stock.

If it's a boxed cartouche (a real one) you're ahead of the game by having one.

I have also worked over a couple of m14 stocks but as a total novice at that time I use blo on one and tung on the other. Both are fine but I wouldn’t do that to this one. There both on Springfield m1a’s

Are you talking about a boxed P? There’s a rack # covering the bottom of the pistol grip. I guess I can try and get it off without screwing up the stock. No other marks but RMC on both and cross canon by the sling cut. Now that I see it in the picture, it looks like it’s covered over in some protective coating. Maybe worth a little solvent

The boxed cartouche tenOCEE mentions would be on the right side of the stock about 1/2 way between the recoil plate and the butt. I looked for one but cannot see one from the pictures.

Floyd,
I've seen a number of the bent swivels posted by new owners on a Redditt sub forum.
Your's is the 1st post I've read noting this.

To Add, I just came across one on Milsurps:

my thought was maybe they were using the thin Nylon slings that bunch up and don’t distribute weight evenly? Just a guess. You’d have to do some serious pulling on then all the time to bend them though. Maybe hanging them by the swivel on a nail and constantly pulling them off
