Pretty sure it is not a carbine tool. I found it in the bottom of my cleaning-tool stash and I have had it for over 30-years at least. I nickle-plated it about that long ago. It serves as a handle on a 30-caliber cleaning rod and I believe it to be Garand or M14 related.

??????????????

floydthecat,

Yes, you are correct. It's an M10 Combination Tool for the M1 Garand.

There ya' go. I thought it may have been a Garand tool. I don't have a Garand and never owned one. I think it came from a handful of cleaning rods my brother gave me in the late 70's. Maybe somebody really needs it...and it's nickle-plated to boot.LOL

Aside from being for the Garand, I believe at some point it became the universal handle for .30 cal weapons, for instance I have one that came from an M60 machine gun cleaning kit. As far as it not being a carbine tool, it is listed and pictured in TM 9-1005-210-35 June 1969, described on page 39 as part of "Tools and equipment authorized for unit replacement. FSN 1005-793-6761 Handle Assy, Cleaning Rod. It is pictured on page 47 figure B-7 along with the oiler, carbine sling and cleaning rod sections, I will scan and post a picture later.

Here is the picture straight from TM 9-1005-210-35, DS, GS, and Depot Maintenance Manual, Carbine, Caliber .30, M1/ Carbine, Caliber .30, M2. It is item # 7 in Figure B7.

The standard 30-caliber rod screws right in and the fixture pinned into the tool rotates with the rod. It does make a good handle.

Item 9 is the rod section, yes the handle screws onto the rod section.
