Ok so probably not very collectable but a CMP gun and my first gun nonetheless... unfortunately have only got to see it a couple times when I went on leave, but I'll be sure to add better pictures and inspect the parts with a book when I get back to the states for good. Til' then here's what I got:
It has an M2 mag catch and the late adjustable rear sight, with the type III barrel band It has a beautiful walnut stock with a "J" marking. Parts of the stock and handguard are almost black in color. Handguard matches the stock. And a 10-43 barrel To be honest I'm not really sure what this is And of course, a close up of the serial number. |

Congrats on your first carbine!
The LGK ST mark on the trigger housing bottom signifies an Austrian return. Specifically a Gendarmerie: Steiermark. Hope I got that right. More info here: http://www.bavarianm1carbines.com/Steiermark.html It also could have been in Germany at one time: Check the top of the rails near the bolt to see if there are any marks. More info here: http://www.bavarianm1carbines.com/Germany.html An interesting and well documented read about carbines in Germany and Austria after the war. |

Wow! That's pretty cool. Unfortunately I'm back in Korea right now, I'll have to look at it again when I get back to the states. I don't remember any marks on the receiver, but I didn't check the trigger housing. Will look when I get back.

Looking at the link to the Gendermarie carbines, mine definitely doesn't have anything etched on the bolt or anywhere else. Markings only under the trigger housing.

Not all Bavarians were marked in same fashion.
Some had marks on rail other did not. If this was a latest release from CMP it is possible it was assembled from parts.. if there are numbers on rear of trigger housing but do not match last digits of serial would indicate it was put together. |

Also, don't forget some Bavarian carbines had their agency names scrubbed off of the receiver rail too. I have two such Bavarian carbines in my collection, neither of which is import marked.

I purchased this one about this time (Sep/Oct timeframe) in 15'... at that time there were several other carbines on auction that had Bavarian Rural Police, Bavarian Forest Police markings. I will do some more research into it and fill out a data sheet when I get home, and hopefully figure out some more about it. Either way, appreciate the comments. Certainly learned a bit.
