Great find. Sure could use that sling for mine. Did IBM use the same slings throughout production?

The story is nice and hopefully true. However, the letter stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip is thought to be a post war arsenal mark.

Do we know what Arsenal it represents ? The only other O or 0 I've seen on another stocks pistol grip is from another IBM stock made by JLB and it's a tad bigger .. This stock is a true t-3 low wood . I cant find Info for this marking being an arsenal marking . ? |

I had originally thought that the letters stamped on the grip base of the stock may have been unique to IBM. Many IBM carbines have them. I wrote about it in CCNL 345, page 5. Since then there have been numerous reports of other manufacturer carbines having letters stamped in the same location. The current theory now is that the letters were used at some depot during the NRA sales of carbines in the early 1960s. Just a theory. Why do so many original appearing IBM carbines have the letter? My thought is that there were a large number of IBM carbines that went right into storage after manufacture and didn't come out of storage til they were sold via NRA in the early 1960s.

Interesting Theory ! I guess at this point we can just speculate or theorize . I don't have a theory , but one thing that is for sure is that the O or 0 does seem to be with IBM only . Hopefully at some point in the future we can find the facts about this mystery !! |

I have a type III stock with SC-B in the sling well, and a "B" on the bottom of the grip. The stock has had some refinishing done, and I am still questioning the possibility of a restamp, so I don't know how useful this information is. If I could ever figure out how to post pics in the discussion area I would love everyone's opinion.
