Here is a 2.8 Underwood with a 2-44 barrel. notice the color contrast next to bolt and slide. The exposed metal has a patina making it a bit brown. Inside parts are much greener.
Trigger housing is only slightly green/gray. I do not believe a refinish as no signs of blasting on any parts. It has a barrel band and adjustable rear sight. However the EU front sight has not been cut down which is odd. Here is a 2.4 W code with the same thin green finish. there is some pitting and no finish in the pitting making me think it is an Underwood original finish. This does not have a original barrel to narrow dates. Both could have been produced at same time. Below is another housing not refinished. It is a brighter green than first one. If anyone has one of these please share barrel dates and serial range |

I have a 2.75 and a 2.80, but will have to dig them out to se barrel dates. Both are all original.

My Underwood-S 2.5 mix-master receiver, barrel and recoil plate have a greenish hue as well. Funny thing is, the NPM Bolt has the same hue. The SG TH is more of a dark gray and the internals are blued.

I just looked at my pictures on a mobile device and realize that different device screens cast different colors.
this is not a gray green that is seen on some other carbines. this has a much more olive green hue, not to be confused with olive drab. the bottom trigger housing almost looks like it was anodized. Clearly not the case as that is a process for aluminum. the surface is not crystalized like that of phosphate coatings, which helps hold oil. Maybe like a cadmium type coating/plating seen on parts from cars in the late 60s through the 70s as I remember. however without the gold tones. seen on door latches, brake boosters and carburetor linkages as well as many other parts. |
