I see conflicting info on m1a1 serial number start for 1st block.

I see 70000 in my book, also 50,000 on another source and further on Google 42000.

While I understand there is not a definite answer to starting serial number.

My question is what are the chances of a early m1a1 with barrel Date of August 1942 and having a early stock bearing serial number of 48000 being correct. Or would this be to low of a serial number.

Please give me your opinion on if it is possible.

Thanks for any help Tim

According to War Baby!, page 218, a November 4, 1942 test report on interchangeability of 10 M1A1s showed the earliest serial number tested was 36356.

For your info:
I own 3 original Inlands M1A1
I bought these back in the early 70's
1 dated 7/43 -1 dated 9/43 both of these have flip sights and first type barrel bands.
The other is a late 12/44 adjustable sight and bayonet lug.
Hope this helps

check the spreadsheets here

download the Inland. Open, hold CTRL and the "F" key to open the search function. Type M1a1 and enter.
Those M1a1s were pulled at random to be tested.

thanks so much for info.  I'm working on acquiring a m1a1 said to be all correct early 48xxx serial number.  Should have it in a few months. Sure hope it checks out.  Those serial number charts are great.

Also just finished my first carbine data sheet on my S'G' learned a lot from that as well as some excellent you tube videos walked me through.

Thanks Tim
