I am proud and glad to be a part of this forum.  I am not a military arms collector but have always held the M1 carbine as my favorite long gun; yes even above my AR-15 and AK-74.  I own an M1, M1A and M2.  I actually became an M1 Carbine "nut" from watching World War II movies and the old TV series "Combat."  One of my fellow firearms instructors and close friend carried the M1 carbine on his tour of duty in Viet Nam.

I am a firearms instructor mostly focusing on tactics.  I run qualification courses for armed security officers as well as civilian classes in personal protection.

I have some provenance for the M1A that it was carried by a paratrooper on D-Day.  It is not much but it is from the grandson of the soldier stating such. This letter was provided to the FFL who handled the sale. I also have the 1911 pistol and holster carried by this veteran.

Knowing the millions of M1s that were made, is there any avenue I can pursue in trying to gain more information on the history of this particular rifle?

Thank you in advance.

It's a long shot but over on the CMP forum there is person (or two) who has been willing to look through the ref material from Springfield research services.

FWIW you may find Chris Baker's latest video on the M1 carbine of interest as he compares time for e magazine change with and without hold-open followers.
