IRRKKKK! Edit to say, the auction doesn't say it's for an IP. It says the parts are marked for IP.

If you are the buyer of an advertised IP barrel sold for $700 today, it doesn't appear to be one. I contacted the seller this morning about the proofing that isn't shown and he sent pics of a large P proof and described the location by saying it is 4 inches from the muzzle. That's a barrel for an Underwood Carbine only. It's also a large P proof.
He sent this pic.

My sig: Seen an IP or S'G'? Add it to my registry. We'll check consecutives.

Expensive lesson for someone, but If I am looking at the correct listing (seller aafjack) it sold for $524.95 not $700? If the barrel band and FS are legit the that makes the $524 price a bit better.

Hey, it was just pointed out to me the barrel doesn't say it's for an IP. It says something about the parts being marked for IP.

It sold as Underwood 4/43 barrel with IPN front sight, type I band & UP swivel. Not false, but you gotta know what you're buying.

Looks like tripledoose bought it. It's on CMP with a thread asking about the parts.

CCNL 374-8 "most I-P carbines have a front sight with a number.."
Maybe Newscotlander will chime in, but it seems it may be sights made for I-P without the number

Did Niedner or I-P stamped the numbers?
In a Sept 1942 letter from Mr. Pedersen to the Manufacturer's Production Committee wrote that they plan on buying full height sights and planned on re-cutting the sights.  'We request permission to stamp the designated height of the front sight..."

As Tenocee pointed out it comes down to the proof markings. If used by I-P it would have their proof as well as one from Underwood in that time period

From the CMP thread:

It does not show if the barrel is dated. If so, is it 6/42 or before??????????????

I wonder if the poster meant 6-43?

Anyone ever see a Underwood barrel earlier than 10-42?

He had to have meant 43 instead of 42.

I think Wayne asked about the front sight staking which isn't so clear. That would be interesting to see cleaned off, but it wouldn't change my mind.

Here's the front sight on my IP.  No number on the left.

TD posted the barrel as being an Underwood with a 4-43 barrel date.
