I have a Inland Carbine.
It has TVA stamped on it's rear bevel.
What is the meaning of TVA? fxstbharley2008@yahoo.com |

Can you post a pic? Sounds like it may have been issued to the Tennessee Valley Authority (aka TVA) Police.

I REMEMBER MANY YEARS AGO AT A "OGCA" MEETING AT THE OLD AND LONG GONE VETERANS MEMORIAL HALL ON BROAD ST. IN COLUMBUS OHIO I SAW A TABLE WITH ALOT OF M1 CARBINES FROM TVA. i CAN'T REMEMBER HOW THEY WERE MARKED, SORRY, ONLY BEEN 35 OR 40 YEARS AGO. EVERY BODY HAD BOXES OF GUN PARTS TO ROOT THROUGH DIRT CHEAP.
i REALLY MISS THOSE DAYS

A friend of mine in South Carolina just sold, I believe an Inland, marked "TVA" on the rear bevel. Several years ago, he contacted someone in the armory at Tennessee Valley Authority. It took a long while, but they eventually got back to him. Whomever at TVA spoke to an "old timer" who had been at TVA through the 1960s and 70s. He was told that they did have M1 carbines and that was how they were marked. He just sold that carbine this past year. I know he had the communications (emails) with TVA printed out for any potential buyer.

Harley, I would love to see a picture! TVA carbines were reported by Phil Taylor back in 1981 to the club and published in CCNL 70 Approximately 500 carbines were sold by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The carbines were reported as having updated bayonet lugs, adjustable rear sights etc. Many of them had TVA lightly inscribed on the slide or the receiver. For the history on the TVA you can start here |
