Any idea what the ink stampings in S'G' slide well represent, were 5 and 6 digit numbers used? Did S.G. stocks have ink stampings?
Thanks

Irwin made M1 carbine stocks did have ink stamps in the slide well and have heard it could be Julian dating.

S'G' Robert Irwin made stocks are often found with the green number stamps. But unlike early S.E. Overton stocks, the numbers in the S'G' stocks were not thought to be a Julian date. Examples have shown too many digits on them. Thoughts fall back to a Stock Inspectors Acceptance, Shop location, Shift, etc Theories like that. Though no proof.
I have not seen examples of SG stocks with the green ink number stamps.
A couple Type II S'G's I was refinishing for a now passed friend. |

Doesn't really appear to have been sanded
Maybe a extra stock sent as a replacement. I'd have to look up or get lucky enough to find my notes on how many stocks they had to send as extras with each stock shipment. But No sign of the SG added letter/numbers in the sling well. Sure is a nice looking stock though... Ch-P777

Durango56 on the CMP for-sale forum had a good pic of an ink stamp. It's very clear.

I was trying to post pics of my stock, the one posted are from a guy on CMP forum. His question was does this look like an RSG stock, possibly unissued as there were no cross cannon stamps, my question is what do the ink stamps represent and did they use 5 and 6 digit stamps.
Thanks for the replies.
