i have photos of him carrying one in ww2
I have all his documents, dd214, One of the pictures is him in a foxhole during the battle of the bulge holding one. My father also told me that he carried one when he was driving heavy equipment, bull dozers etc. Thats why i was hoping to get one all original and not put together. My dad was a vietnam vet and he always wanted to get one remembering his dad. When the CMP carbines came out in 2003 era. He and i were going to buy one. But he had started getting bad Parkinsons symptoms. So that got put on hold. He passed and i never got around to getting one, so finally i wanted to try to get one. |

hey, he was tech 5
He was heavy vehicle operator, bull dozers. Mos #359 My aunt told me, when he was sick and dying in the hospital in the late 1980's, my aunt told me he talked to her while lying in his hospital bed. She said he told her he still had nightmares about being in Dachau. He had to bulldoze bodies and he had nightmares about burying someone alive. I still think about my aunt telling me that story. Thanks |

And kids today are not even being taught that history....what a shame.
Had an uncle that was the only survivor in his beach landing craft on D-Day. He was a very troubled alcoholic until his death at a fairly early age. We need to know these things, and remember.

I heard a handful of stories about my grandpa when I was a kid but didn't know much. Did some digging, found his name under a reunion picture in an archived newspaper. I eventually found an online source with all of his company's rosters and after action reports -- got to walk through most of the war, day by day!
Dig up the records while you can. There was a big fire (I believe in the 70s) that wiped out many after action reports but you can still find quite a bit online or by writing to the National Archives.

i tracked my grandfather from enlistment to the end of the war coming home. He went on a troopship oct 23 1944 and arrived 1st week of Nov 44.
Trained in England on demo and mines, tactics and manuevers for a month, then was transported in 2 week in Dec into france. They were attached to Pattons 3rd in the battle of the bulge and went through Luxembourg into Belgium. Found out he went into German occupied town in the middle of the night in Feb/March timeframe and stole a German excavator. I found this out from his Veteran buddies. They needed it to help fix a part of the autobahm. He went into the town with another buddy and he stole it under the german noses. I found out he used to trade chocolate bars and fruit bars to locals to get fresh eggs. Still have his bring back K98, carl eickhorn long sword, bayonets, photos, and i tracked all my dads during his stint in Vietnam. Before my dad died i got all my grandfathers medals reissued (some were lost over the years) and put together a shadow box for his dad (my grandfather) and gave it to him. Anyway all of this rounding back to why i was working to get an original ww2 carbine lol |

so the gentleman i bought this underwood from said he may have changed the sight he didnt remember.
He told me he changed the safety But he said he would let me return the rifle for a full refund of my 1750 if i wanted to do that. I opened the rifle and the trigger has some rough pitting too i noticed He told me this underwood is exactly how it would have come from the underwood factory in 1943 |

Good result.
I'm naturally cynical, but I suspect he new all along what he had done and was selling to you; He should have just called it a "restored" carbine and let you know up front. JMHO.
