I noticed that my barrel band type III is different from others. Mine is SA marked and instead of the typical four hole mine has one large hole in the center is this older or earlier the other type III’s?

SA typically indicates a post-war replacement part as far as I know.

Replacement part yes, but not necessarily Post War, it is believed that Springfield Armory produced these bands starting in Jan 1945.

Well I'll be dipped, you learn something new every day. Thank you! I was aware SA rear sights existed during the war (One was on a bring-back Inland posted probably 4-5 years ago now on here if I am not mistaken) but was never sure on bayonet lugs, even though I do know some did show up around the timeframe of Okinawa per a newsreel someone posted.

very interesting! I was hoping that might be the case. My research online came up with little on two types of type III barrel bands late war and post war.

Thanks

Original appearing very late WRA Carbines have been reported in the CCNL’s with SA marked type 3 barrel bands.

+1 @ Wayne
CCNL 377
SA produced over 160,000 type 3 barrel bands between January - June 1945
Ordnance contracts were in effect from June 1944 until April/June/ July 1945 for a few other  manufacturers

CCNL 355 talks of use of SA and the above contractors by Winchester
