Hi there,
I just joined and wanted to say hello to everyone! I'm in SE Michigan-just outside of Detroit. Hopefully, I can learn enough from you all that I will be able to purchase a reliable shooter-grade M1 Carbine. I am not a do-it-yourself gunsmith and hope that I can also learn who all is out there that can work on these guns. From what little I have read, I understand reliability can be an issue, in part connected to magazine quality. I served with the 101st Airborne in Viet Nam and appreciate a lightweight, easily packed and carried weapon system. My best to you all!

Welcome. Typically, the Carbine doesn't require any work to run reliably, but you are correct in understanding that the magazines can be key to that purpose. I don't have as much shooting experience as others but my only failures came from a 30 round MADE IN USA marked magazine. The identical magazine I bought that day performed well. The 15s I used just worked. Even the shooters are more costly than a modern, accurate bolt action deer rifle, but the good new is they're just as valuable when you sell...if you don't overspend.

Welcome, you’ve come to the right place. The guys here have a fountain of knowledge in M1 Carbines. You don’t really need to be a gunsmith to work on one, they are easier to work on than an AR.

We have members from SE MI. Always a good idea to get a few opinions before a purchase. Fake parts, Fake stamps represented as being real USGI can sour a deal quickly. We have a WTB / WTS section here you might want to keep in mind. Good people here with plenty of knowledge. Want to Thank You for your service Ch-P777

Welcome to the forum..You'll learn alot here. I know I have.
I retired from the USN in 1973 due to injuries and when I lived in TN, I frequently went to to Fort Campbell, KY for commissary and BX. |

Welcome! I grew up Downriver, in Trenton.
You’ll learn a lot here. If a shooting grade is more important than a collectible, you could also consider a commercial model.
